Having Barlow on one side, and Coranato on the other side of a playmaking centre, would be a lot of fun. Two of the best shots for that age bracket, although Coranato is a better all around player.

I really hope the noise about them wanting to keep all their vets, especially Rasmus Andersson, is a bluff.

Looks to have regressed since his draft year and hasn’t stayed healthy. We passed over him to take Honzek. @Sandman, any intel?

No rentals obviously.
As Sec alluded to, this road trip has probably shown Craig all he needs to know about competing for a cup this year.
I have not heard about any requests for Flames vet's lists etc but that doesn't mean its not true.
I do think the stuff about Andersson is more smoke than truth, I still believe Craig would rather move him than sign him to $8M+ especially given how much of a regression we've seen considering he's played primarily with Bahl who's as steady as we've got.
I think Craig knows this team needs a superstar, someone who can take a game over and or make something happen. Those usually only come by drafting one though so again Calgary is in a tough spot (wink wink Parekh)
I think outside of the Core 4-5 young guys just about anyone can be had for the right price.

First of all, you can never look at Barlow's point totals- you have to concentrate on his goals, as he will always have a lopsided goals-assists. Right now, he's tied for 21st in the OHL in goals, which still ain't great for a player of his stature.
He asked for a trade this past off-season from Owen Sound, which was eventually granted, and he's now playing for Oshawa- who are tied for 5th-overall. I do think that Oshawa is a much more structured team, which might be eating in to his production, but that doesn't seem to be affecting his teammates Beckett Sennecke, or Callum Ritchie. The real culprit here (other than injuries) is that it took him some time this season to get acclimated to a new team, with a new system. He had 0 points in his first 6 games, and only 13 points in his first 20.

That sounds like a depreciating asset at first glance. Might be why Winnipeg is more willing to trade him instead of Lambert or Yager. Not sure if Andersson could return any of them along with a first round pick. Sandman - how would rank those 3 prospects/players in terms of value?

I would go:
1) Yager- he's a beauty, and a C.
2) Barlow- 6'1"power-forward, with leadership and good hands, not sure at this point if he'll ever be a top-line player.
3) Lambert- always has trouble between the ears, and he's not getting much done this year.

Thanks Sandman. Wonder if something like this would work:
To Winnipeg:
Andersson (50% retained)
Posposil
To Calgary:
Yager
2026 first round pick (top 10 protected)
2025 2nd round pick
It’s an all in move for the Jets. Winnipeg gets two impact players (to varying degrees). I think Posposil has the makings of a really important depth player in the playoffs and I think other teams will covet that as well. Retaining 50% on Andersson maximizes his value. Calgary gets a top center prospect and a first round pick in next years draft instead of this years draft which I think works better for Calgary as next years draft should be deeper than this one. I could see the argument for this being an overpay by either side in this scenario.
Calgary is essentially getting magic beans for Andersson in this trade so it’s a big risk I guess… but it’s very rare for any team to ever trade their top prospect if they are not getting a top prospect in return. The downside for Calgary with Winnipeg as a trade partner is that I’m not sure Yager has much potential as a top six centre. Could be wrong though. Just remember comments that said his offensive upside might be limited.

Have to think what sec mentioned in the panthers GT about Ras playing well against the caps as some kind of audition could work for both sides. They're serious for at least another couple years and have a few nice pieces.

No chance the Caps are giving up Protas for Andersson. I think we really need to be tempering our expectations for a return if the Flames decide to move Ras.

The last 2 times I traveled to Vancouver for work the Flames made a trade. In June of last year they made the Markstrom deal while I was there and most recently they made the Frost/Farabee deal as I was landing back in Calgary. With the trade deadline later this week and me traveling to Vancouver today until Wednesday the chances are heightened for a Flames deal to go down.

Friedman on the 32 thoughts podcast:
Conroy has made it clear the veterans: Coleman, Andersson, Kadri, Weegars are not going anywhere
Couple of hard losses but still in playoff race.
They want the young players (Coronato, Zary, Pospisil, Wolf) to play important games
People have told Friedman that look at the prices right now, they have to move their guys.
Friedman doesn't think the prices will go down in the summer. Teams that like Calgary's veterans will still like them in the summer.
Unless something really strange happens, Conroy is sticking with his plan
Flames are trying to find a place for Miromanov via trade
Other teams might be looking at Joel Hanley
After all the craziness of the last couple of years, Conroy wants the players to understand that the organization is moving in the proper direction.

Haha. Nobody is trading for miromanov. I do wonder if they could get a late pick for Hanley. Granted if they aren’t trading any vets what’s the point of trading weavers best partner for a late pick.
Truthfully reading Friedmans on flames deadline hurts. Trade Anderson . He is not going to be worth his next contract.

He’s way easier to move in the summer. Teams will be tripping over themselves to add him into the fold and join them for a full season at that cap.

This whole not-trading-vets thing might just be the most off-putting thing about Conroy's tenure as GM. It's insane to think keeping them around is doing the team any good. If it's about having vets with experience to guide the young guys, you can EASILY find old guys for cheap to make the locker room a torch-passing room.

If the Flames retain 50%, and take on a smallish cap dump, this is absolutely doable for literally any team wanting to make him a part of their playoff push. It's ridiculous to think his $4.5M AAV is somehow a deal breaker now.
