iamca - you may not be “depressed” but suffering from adjustment disorder. You could be having an amplified reaction to a stressful situation. Get out of the situation and you might feel much better. Ask your therapist about that.

Please look after youself.
Thanks for this. I'm trying. I opened up to my brother and a friend a little bit. I haven't given them the whole picture. Hoping I can pull myself out of it like I usually do but I feel like I'm a miserable person to be around these days so I'm trying not to be too annoying.

Have perfectionism that interferes with completing tasks.

Have excessive devotion to work and productivity.
This results in neglecting hobbies and spending less time with loved ones.

Have excessive doubt and indecisiveness.

Use extreme caution to avoid what they perceive to be failure.

Be rigid and stubborn in their beliefs and ways of doing things.

Be unwilling to compromise.

Have difficulty working with others or delegating tasks unless they agree to do things exactly as the person wants.

Frequently become overly fixated on a single idea, task or belief.

Perceive everything as “black or white” (dichotomous thinking).

Have difficulty coping with criticism.

Over-focus on flaws in other people.

The number one strategy in dealing with a boss with OCPD: Don’t try to change them.

It’s pointless, won’t work and I’ll end up in a worse situation.

The post from Trent helped me look at myself and what I can do to improve my life and well being, because I cannot change her or tell her that she needs treatment for her OCPD. That would add fuel to the fire.

I reached out to a mental health professional and have my first appointment tomorrow morning (first available).

Thanks doesn’t really cover it, but thank you and the CP community for your support!

This basically describes almost every manager I've ever had. This is particularly true in larger businesses, where the commands come from the top down. They can't be specific to every situation, so they make a sweeping order that's good, on average, for the entire business. The problem is they often create inefficiencies and extra work for various people on the bottom rungs.

The middle managers are always people, although they profess their devotion to the big picture, aren't actually capable of seeing it themselves. If you're lucky they've been chosen because they blindly follow and enforce rules. If you're unlucky they got to where they are because they have a talent for making their coworkers look bad.

As much as I complain about the burdens of being self employed, it's posts like this that remind me that working for others can be so much worse. Having your livelyhood and future decided by the whims of someone incapable of doing their basic function as a manager is in another level.

I just want to flag this one real quick, because this feels like the depression talking, and depression is a very unreliable narrator. Humans are generally terrible at determing how other people feel (and it gets exponentially worse when we're in a dark place). I totally get that it feels like that, but would also ask that you explore the possibility that it's untrue.

I can't think of a single example of a person being annoyed by somebody opening up to them.

That's of course the logical side of things, which is hard to see when you're neck-deep in the emotional side. You've already taken some really important steps though. You told your friend and brother part of the story and they didn't respond negatively. Your post here (telling more of the story) has 14 likes... even though it might not feel like much is changing, you're actually making some progress.

Rusty knows. For some reason I pegged afire as a doctor for some reason. Russia is right, we are dicks to ourselves so much that we’d fight people if they said that to us.

My wife stopped sleeping g in the same bed because apparently I say “you fataing piece of schit” in my sleep.

I just made a step towards better mental health by deleting FB.

I can find whatever information I need elsewhere.

I had the audacity to compare Musk’s eugenics and breeding fetish to the Lebensborn program and was told I was “just being mean.” There’s no hope.

Hey IamCa... thanks for sharing.
As with all stressful work situations be sure to document particular instances where you feel you have been wronged, or observed this manager coming down on others too. Is it possible this person has created this same issue/problem with many others in the company? If so... and you have a trustworthy whistleblower policy and are comfortable doing so, then report them and encourage others to do likewise. No guarantee it'll work, and should be considered very carefully of course. Also for consideration is taking a health-leave of absence from work. I've known a few people this has worked for and they did not appear to suffer any stigma upon return. In retrospect I wish I had exactly this a few years back (before Covid times) with a specific sociopathic megalomaniac supervisor...

And as others have said/alluded to... find your WHY. Why are you working? Who will be benefiting (you, family, future you, etc...) Then dive into reducing your costs of living so you can accelerate your "magic number" which may be your bare-minimum for retirement. At that point you could look for another less stressful more favourable work place, unless its best to do that ASAP.

I don't know about anybody else, but I can't be on social media of almost any kind lately without immediately spiking a heart rate of 100. I'm a pretty even-keeled guy, but just being around that energy is clearly terrible for us.

It's tough though... there's the balance between being informed of what's happening and being a functional member of your family and community. I'm noticing a few friends of mine completely shutting down lately and it's not great.

First you volunteer to give Hawaiin tourists handies, and now you pegged Afireinside?

You might need some supervision for a while.

First day back at work. Was told not to come in but screw that. Tired as piss by noon, crying at my desk because I thought I was further along, went home and wrote an apology email. They hired me to do good things and this popped and I haven’t lived up to my end of the bargain.

I got Dx'ed with this and went on Apo-Guanfacine (Intuniv), which has been quite helpful. Still a lot of work to do with self-regulation, resilience management, and changing the circumstances, but that depressed feeling is much less. Would second this recommendation.

Also, Iamca... I wouldn't be so quick to jump to OCPD as the Dx for your manager, a lot of those symptoms are autistic traits.

There used to be, the space was re-purposed to match existing businesses and clientele demand.

Hmmm, during President Camacho’s term you could get a handjob at Starbucks. Hope those employees are able to find another workplace.

I would not disappoint there, because I’ve come up with this innovative handi technique where, instead of my hand, I use my mouth. I, unlike you, think outside the box.

The death of intellectualism marches on and on and on.

DJT, Poilievre, and Danielle Smith have become the 'cnuts on the news' holy trinity, and I'm having trouble escaping it. It's taking its toll on me lately, to the point it's affecting my sleep a great deal. I'm starting to see the appeal of dunking my head in the sand, turning my brain off, and binging shows like The Real Housewife of Love Island or whatever the #### nonstop for the next bit.

It seems to work for a huge swath of the population?

Well, that thought did not help anybody's mental health.
