You would have a hard time convincing me its not one if the dumbest moves this franchise has ever done.
Big no to petterson.

I’d stay far, far away from Petterson. There’s a good chance that what we’ve seen the last season and a half is just who this guy is. Being stuck with a player like that for the better part of a decade at $11 mil would be a worse albatross for this franchise than Huberdeau, who at least plays hard.
|
I’d be wary of Pettersen too but your characterization of him is a little over the top.
Whiners with zero compete don’t score 100 points in the NHL. In fact, they don’t make NHL at all.

Who would you want the flames to get?
Curious what people would say.
Also, it's crazy but I would offer sheet Johnston and Bourque next year and force Dallas.
Offer sheet Johnston 9x8 - RD1 + RD2 + RD3 - Even if the flames suck next season and it's a top 10 pick, what are the chances of getting a player better then Johnston?
Offer sheet Bourque 5x3 - RD2
Force Dallas to choose. Although can you even do this. Have RD2 pick tied up in two offer sheets?
|
The prize is Gavin McKenna so yeah we should be holding on to our 2026 1st and Vegas until it becomes apparent it won't be lottery picks.

Man, I don't think I'm going to survive this Road Trip.
I usually keep a pretty level head about this ####, but I'm really feeling and riding the extremes right now.

Can’t use the same pick at the same time.

Can hardly wait till next year when we get to read multiple posts a day about how the Flames are doing it wrong and we’re screwing up our chance to get McKenna despite incredibly small odds and organizational history of never tanking.

One-third of the way through a tough six-game road swing, Craig Conroy was asked if his team’s performance over the next week could affect his trade deadline plans.
“No, I think the plan is the plan,” said the Calgary Flames GM.
That plan, as has been laid out all season long, is to add only youngish (23- to 25-year-old) players who can help the group both now and into the future.
Players to grow with.
No rentals.
It was with that narrow scope the Flames acquired Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost last month, which may wind up being the extent of their adds.
Sure, as Conroy admitted, a left-handed defenceman is still on his wish list.
But other than that, the Flames aren’t expected to get significant air time on trade deadline day.
“They've done a great job as a group, and as much as you'd love to reward them, it has to be a part of the plan,” said Conroy, whose club sits one point back of the West’s final wild-card berth.
“You're always looking to improve the team, but it's got to make sense.
“If it's a younger player, and we have them under control, or even maybe a 26-year-old that you're gonna have control of, it might make more sense.
“We may have made our big move with Farabee and Frost. But we’ll see.”

Was that today?
Seems to contradict Sec's claim.
But GMs don't like to draw attention either.

Hard no for me on Petterson. That contract alone would be crippling not to mention whatever the acquisition cost is. We already have one hugely overpaid player but at least he plays hard and his GAF meter is very high.
My impression of the Petterson/Miller feud is that Miller didn't like Petterson's effort and attitude and Miller seems like a guy that bleeds for his teams.
I don't see Petterson as a "just needs a change of scenery" kind of guy. Way more red flags...proceed with caution.

"Blunder" in my estimation points to either Vancouver/Pettersson or Carolina/Rantanen.
I'm not high on EP either, but what does a return for him even look like.

I would be totally fine if the Flames stand pat at the deadline.
Solovyov is like getting a solid 3rd pair at the deadline and the roster is finally healthy.

If the Sabres spend all of their money, I'd offer sheet Jack Quinn next year.

Conroy's been very good thus far about keeping his cards close to his chest, so my interpretation of this is that it doesn't mean much.
Didn't it come out recently that during contract negotiations with Lindholm a couple of summers ago he basically knew that he would be trading him? But until it actually happened, he kept talking like there was nothing to see and we were still trying to work on an extension. Same with Hanifin and Marky and the others that have moved on.

JJ is another winger... but he would be a great add if we could subtract one for picks.

I think it’s strategic. Everyone and their dogs vet know the flames are looking for a center. His comments are directed at other gms to my mind. This is what i want, i am fine standing pat, so unless you are serious dont bother me.
