You don’t.

You’re making conclusions based on public comments/third party information.

Unless of course you’ve spoken to Tocchet, Pettersen, Alvin or Rutherford.

The gifs Sec shared seem to 100% point to it being something with the Kings. I can't see them trading Byfield but that would certainly qualify as a pretty big "blunder" and I don't really know what else Connie would want from there, other than say Clarke to help bolster the D.

Clarke's been rumoured to be on the block too...

JC, it was a GD joke. Do we need to put disclaimers on every post to avoid being roasted by every keyboard warrior waiting to pounce, in order to pump themselves up? This place can be insufferable sometimes….

I don't think Byfield is available especially for anything we have to offer.

Apparently, Mercer is a winger now and has been for a while, with injuries he still doesn't get any reps at C.

Young centers that you could argue their current team has mismanaged:

Pettersson
Cozens
Mercer
Zegras
McTavish
Byfield*

*Don’t actually think Byfield has been mismanaged. Just included him because he’s been discussed the last couple days. Don’t actually think he should be available.

People are so quick to forget. Hindsight is 20/20 but there was ALOT of uncertainty and drama surrounding Eichel before he was traded.

Eichel was getting criticized and labeled with attitude problems while in Buffalo. There was tons of drama surrounding him outside of his injury.

Also as someone else mentioned there's pretty strong ?rumour? that Pettersson has some nagging knee and wrist injury/tendonitis.

Pettersson is a HUGE risk. But there is serious upside still.

First 7 seasons:

Pettersson
GP G A P P/GP G/GP
71 28 38 66 0.93 0.42
68 27 39 66 0.97 0.41
26 10 11 21 0.81 0.48
80 32 36 68 0.85 0.47
80 39 63 102 1.28 0.38
82 34 55 89 1.09 0.38
53 11 24 35 0.66 0.31
Total 460 181 266 447 0.97 0.40

Eichel
81 24 32 56 0.69 0.43
61 24 33 57 0.93 0.42
67 25 39 64 0.96 0.39
77 28 54 82 1.06 0.34
68 36 42 78 1.15 0.46

34 14 11 25 0.74 0.56
Total 409 153 227 380 0.93 0.40

Don't worry about it man!

There's a lot of junk in here for sure but also a mirror universe of fun discussion and information if you ignore certain folks/negativity.

It's worked out wonderfully for Vegas in hindsight, but there was a ton of risk there and it could of easily blown up.

If we want to trade for a young PPG+ #1 center, we're going to need to eat ALOT of risk. Teams don't give these players up unless there's an issue.

I don't know if the flames should do it. I guess like everything else it comes down to price.

If you could realistically get him fairly cheap, I think you take the risk.
Completely different situations. Eichel was never regarded as an ultra-soft whiner with zero compete. He just got tired of playing for the Sabres after they opposed him over surgery.

I’d stay far, far away from Petterson. There’s a good chance that what we’ve seen the last season and a half is just who this guy is. Being stuck with a player like that for the better part of a decade at $11 mil would be a worse albatross for this franchise than Huberdeau, who at least plays hard.

That sounds like me. Keyboard warrior just waiting to pounce

Sorry, but if we're honest this thread creates some pretty crazy ideas. If it wasn't you who legitimately thought that could be a move, someone was going to say it.

But I should have made it more of a broad comment or addressed the group. Didn't mean to offend.

The biggest red flag is that Vancouver would be willing to trade him in division for a small price.

Carolina had a deal done for him and pivoted for a winger. Centers are the hardest players to get and they said naw.

I was in favour of a Pettersson acquisition a couple months ago -- now, no way. Even after the Canucks cleared his obstacles it appears he has major issues. It's clear there is more going on with the player than just one bad teammate. The risk is way too high now, especially with the attached contract.

He never compared him to eichel. He said the situation was about as close as you could get to riches situation . His main point is if flames are trading for a 1st line center there are going to be warts. Teams are giving up on bonafide 1st line players unless there are concerns

I'd rather have Monahan back than Petterson. That's saying a lot. Actually it's not. Monny should never have left.

The rumour was Carolina had offered a good return for Peterson. It was also rumoured that Canucks hadn’t accepted it because they were still mulling over who to keep

I could see Conroy sniffing around a guy like Barzal. The Islanders are kind of in no mans land, could use an injection of picks, and are due for a shift in direction.

Underwhelming year, injury issues, etc.. Doubtful, but it would fit the bill of a surprising move.

Hypothetically lets say Cozens, Ratanen and Pettersson could all be had for the same price. Ratanen would come with an 14x8 extension.

Who would you want the flames to get?

Curious what people would say.

Also, it's crazy but I would offer sheet Johnston and Bourque next year and force Dallas.

Offer sheet Johnston 9x8 - RD1 + RD2 + RD3 - Even if the flames suck next season and it's a top 10 pick, what are the chances of getting a player better then Johnston?

Offer sheet Bourque 5x3 - RD2

Force Dallas to choose. Although can you even do this. Have RD2 pick tied up in two offer sheets?

I'd rather Cozens. But Rantanen is a no brainer. But we don't need wingers.
