Not one of the best movies of all time, but definitely one of the most fun to watch.

Pretty much completely accurate, purposely losing almost never works.

If they end up just missing and give up the 16th OV pick I won't be too annoyed...it won't be fun but it's going to be pretty tight and 9th place is quite possible.
It's more if they go on a slump here now and end up finishing with like 11TH OV pick...that's what would hurt the most.

It's just such a simplistic view though. No one WANTS to lose. I just want the team to win more in the long term. Riding Kadri until failure and propping him up with additional talent to limp into the playoffs is not a recipe for sustained success. But picking high in a season where we have no reasonable chance of actually competing for the cup is potential a recipe for it.
No, Kadri and I won't agree. I think it was a huge mistake for the flames to sign Kadri, I have nothing against him at all and he is a fun player to watch!

When the NFL sesason ended I posted in here videos of the Patriot players taking questions on why they didn't take a dive and get the #1 pick. They won and ended up with the #4 pick I believe. All of them said no one cares about picks, and they play to win.
I think most people realize that the players are pros that's why they made the NHL and they play to win every game.
Don't think that quote from Kadri should shock anyone and frankly it would be disappointing hearing a player that we are paying $7M talk about draft picks lol.

Your view would be simplistic to the players too. They don't care about draft standing or any of that nor should they.

Devils pick won't be much different anyway...and hopefully the Panthers lose in round one.
People worry too much, hopefully they hit on the 2 firsts they get. Really long term what is the difference? Its a sunk cost to an eastern team....11th pick or 16th pick or whatever.

I think that is his point, if you have a player or team that accepts losing and it becomes part of the culture, getting out of that rut can be very hard for a team. If you are playing at this level and don't believe you have a chance to win, then you aren't long for this league.

It's been said about 100 times.
They didn't go into this season looking to ride Kadri and prop him up with additional talent.
They did the opposite.
They moved 6 free agents.
They dealt their starting goaltender.
They purposely didn't spend money, leaving $20M of cap space.
The team leveled up.
Wasn't the plan. But it was the outcome.
I think when you let an outcome bother you this much you're missing the point. Enjoy what it is.
Watching your team is fun. If they make the playoffs it will be the best gravy playoffs in team history.

This was supposed to be a developmental year, young guys coming in and learning the ropes. The lack of talent was what was supposed to hold us back, not guys giving up. I didn't expect that, the wins are coming because they are overachieving.
It's great for the young guys to see though the commitment and work required on and off the ice to win.
THey can see a guy like Huberdeau who didn't have to change his game, he is guaranteed his money. But he did, and he is getting rewarded for it and so is the team.
The word culture is used a lot, for me its not just what happens on the ice but off the ice as well. Kobe had a story of how his teammates would go to big cities and want to go out after the game, so he told them he will go out with them but tomorrow they are working out with him. So he would be banging on their doors at 5AM saying I went out with you, now you come hang out with me.

I actually agree with this completely- they should only care about winning every game.
It's management that has to make harder longer term decisions, and IMO they need to care less about what the players think than they currently are.

Bingo, you always prescribe such emotions to my post, but please note the last 5-6 times you and I have talked about this, it's because someone else has summoned me like beetlejuice to defend my consistent talking points, and then you think i'm worked up because I have come to provide the context that other people are seeking.
Do I think the flames are making bad decisions at management level? Yes.
Do I let it ruin my day? No, I still watch the games, I still love the flames. I still come here!

I think the point that is being made is that you are upset about "bad management decisions" when it doesn't make sense to be upset. They did 90% of the moves you claim to support in moving out pending UFA vets AND their starting goalie who still had term but you are bashing on them for the 10% left (Andersson) and they still haven't actually made a decision on him yet.
Having a person get it right 90% of the time should be celebrated instead of harping on the 10%, especially when that 10% is still a future based decision (hasn't happened yet). At least hold off until July 1st to see if it is worth the effort.

Honestly if were not in the top 7 or 8 it doesnt really matter. Were not going to draft a franchise center at 10th overall. If were going to settle for scraps we might as well draft later in the first and get the next Jankowski/Colburne type and hope we get a Tage Thompson.

Yeah historically the difference between 13th-20th in the draft is non existent
At this point we’re not getting to draft in a spot that mathematically makes a real difference in finding stars or superstars . So Go Flames Go
