Eventually he'll get moved around to a few team like Laine. Every team hoping they can bring his best out.

Demko, Petterson, Hughes, Miller, Boeser seemed like a pretty decent core to build a contending team around.
What the hell happened? Has the window on the current core closed?

No reason to fire him now, they have an option on him for next year.
Who's to say he even wants to return.

Looks like a combo of Demko being made of glass and terrible leadership.

It's more about the Jack Adams trophy being awarded to coaches that manage to overachieve with their roster. When a team overachieves one season, there's usually a high chance that the team regresses back to the mean the following season in the face of elevated expectations. Should Tocchet be fired based on the Canucks record? I would say no because I think the team on paper is a team that would be battling for the last playoff spot in the west. However I'm not a fan of his style of defense first hockey and don't think it plays to the strengths of the Canucks roster so I think moving on from him would probably be their best course of action if they miss the playoffs.

It was said before the Miller trade that if Pettersson didn't like the spotlight and pressure, he was really going to hate it if the Canucks traded Miller because of their issues, putting even more of the spotlight on him. First, it was Tocchet's system, then it was Miller, then it was linemates, and then his knee. Now Pettersson is saying it's the media and well, Pettersson better buckle up!

When we asked Pettersson whether confidence is a factor when struggling to score, the alternate captain said, "It's more annoying dealing with the media."

The kid is a little soft but in a US market or even Calgary where the media is much more forgiving, he may fair better.

Nah, he's an obvious head case. He was great when they were "rebuilding", but now that he has the big contract and they're supposed to be competitive he's wilting in the spotlight. Some guys just aren't built to handle the pressure that comes with expectations.

He should retire, get a small apartment, all the major consoles, and just game full time. He'll be really happy, and the Cansucks will continue to be no good.
Win-win.

I still think he's hurt, but it's not serious, but just enough to impact his game to the point where he's not 100% effective.
And it's snowballing due to the contract, JT Miller trade, overall team performance, etc.
His skating is clearly limited and whether that's effort, or just not able to do it right now with his knee, it's what is clearly impacting him.
And I don't think he ever once said his struggles were because anything of the things mentioned...he never said he wasn't scoring because of JT Miller, or the media. So he's not using them as excuses. He just seems like he's sick of the media constantly talking about stuff that's not actually about the game (JT Miller relationship, his confidence, etc).

Watching Petey crash and burn is absolutely delightful.
Poor little Petey can't take the media pressure, boo-hoo.

Watching the Canucks core crumble/abandon them has been delightful.
Do Edmonton next!
I don't think we'll see the old petey until he's moved to another team. Whatever the problem is, it's made its home between his ears and laid eggs at this point.

I'd take a chance on Petey if they retained a little off the top so he'd be a sub 10 mill player... if he had a turnaround, he'd be easily our best C.

Damaged goods, its very sad.
That contract may be worse than Huberdeau at this point.
He needs a fresh start to hopefully jumpstart his career again, and not in a Canadian market. Something quiet and far from being the top sport in that city.
Its remarkable how bad he's fallen off, but whats worse is the lack of owning up to his play and just throwing out excuse after excuse. Not a good look.
