Interesting that Vlad now says he would welcome going to the Yanks as it's in the past. Whomever here said petulant is probably right. Blame the Jays for not signing him before, but not giving into crazy demands today where they don't see his long term value, again, I agree with. For Vlad to be openly talking about it when it's ultimately a negotiation, and it's the start of the year, is a little annoying. We get it that this management group isn't the best, but your demands are a little much and a little too long.

Meh. That’s just business - saying he would never want to go there before eas petulant. Walking it back now when they're a potential bidder just makes sense. There's only a handful of teams that might bid at the level he's looking for and the Yankees are one of them.

Exactly. I'm sure this was his agent's advice to not uneccessarily remove one of the perennial high bidders.
That said - this saga is really going to suck.

Oh, it's all business. But that can easily be done behind the scenes with his agent. For Vlad to outwardly come out and say it when he's with the Jays is a bit annoying. The fans understand but it sucks to dream about other teams so publicly.

The most encouraging thing I have heard about the whole Vladdy situation is how similar it is to Judge just a few years ago. He saw the market and decided he was happy to stay in New York.
Now, as a Jays fan, I've been hurt too often to really believe that will happen, but there is a chance....

Fair point. By rumour the Jays have been at or near the high bidder for many top tier FAs recently, but coming to Toronto has been an issue. Vlad's already in Toronto and seems to like it - I'd suspect that if the Jays are high bidder he'll stay.

Really curious how the year plays out

The Vladdy situation is not surprising to me. I don't think Shatkins really values Vladdy that much.
I am actually surprised that they haven't made much of an effort to extend Bo though. I think he strikes me as more of a Shatkins type as he seems to have a more serious and business like personality and also plays a more premium position. Although I could see Shatkins not loving how well he plays it.
In terms of consistency though, injury year aside, Bo has been the more consistent player and I think he'd be a pretty safe long term bet.

Well Judge could've gotten more money from San Diego at the time, but that was the only team making him think about leaving NY, where we was beloved. So, going from a big market to a small market for more money wasn't worth it for Judge.
Vlad would be going the other way, he would probably be going to a big market like NYM, NYY, Boston, maybe LA (Angels), making close to same money as the Jays, but where he'd grow his fan base and brand.
It is not out of the realm to re-sign in T.O., but again, I think any Vlad re signing has to start with organizational changes. I don't think he trusts or likes Shapiro or Atkins, since at least removing Teo and Gurriel from the team a few years back and then everything else that's gone on since with the team, the terrible offseasons, and the contract negotiations.

They started scouting/wooing Vladdy when he was 16 IIRC. They develop him, he turns into a star, a fan favorite, a gold glove winner, silver slugger, multi time all star.
Now he's good as gone. No, he's not the best in baseball, and yes......he was going to be overpaid to stay.
But to be a fan of this team and watch all the money they have, and the free agent contracts they offered to other studs, and yet refuse to overpay Vladdy is just........sad. It's not sad because he's the best in the world, it's sad because Vladdy would be one of the few reasons other good players just might sign with the Jays. If the Jays become a worse team why are other players going to bother signing in Toronto? To play with Dalton Varsho?

"They" were different people in charge.
Edward Rogers got smooth talked by Shapiro and subsequently gave him the keys to surround himself with people he can control.
There's no Paul Beeston to return and have the ear of the owners, as there was to push out Ricciardi.
Who's going to go over Shapiro and talk directly to Rogers, that Rogers will listen to?
Vlad I am sure has been painted as some greedy over valued player when Atkins and Shapiro pull out the PowerPoint slides that Rogers likes to see.

If you aren’t going to sign him you need to blow this #### up and go get a new core / rebuild.
Dragging this out means destroying a full season and delaying the inevitable. Either buck up and pay him or trade him.
Agree with KFF, pretty stupid to be out shopping for all these randoms but then refuse your homegrown stars requests.

It was San Fran (where he's from) but fair point.
