Look, I like skiing. By that I mean spefically the part when you're at the top and actually making your descent and taking in the views.
Everything else in between is awful. And that's most of what a ski day entails. Driving, dressing, hauling, walking, waiting. And when you're sitting its in people's sweaty equipment smell.
And then the part where you're paying out the nose for an activity that is so simple that it really shouldn't cost what it does if you're bringing your own equipment.
Unless running lifts costs a fortune that I'm unaware of.
In the end, the juice ain't worth the squeeze outside of maybe a day per season when you're really feeling energetic and I guess so you can say you got out there.
Oh and the freezing. I forgot the freezing. Namely while totally exposed to a -20 wind dangling in the air waiting for the damn chair to move.

Years ago I went skiing in BC. Everything was cool until I had to go down the hill, and then I spent most of the time rolling because I couldn't get it down right and the bottom of the hill was a rope and a cliff.
Last time.

Yeah I like skiing too but all that prep time sucks so I don't bother.

I was a competitive downhill skier for years. Now? I'd rather be at the bar.

I taught lessons at COP, mostly to get a free lift pass.
Now, I can't really justify teaching my kids for a few reasons:
1. Living in Edmonton means that it's a 4 hour car ride just to a reasonable hill/mountain.
2. The cost of lift tickets is just absurd.
3. Hotels too
I am not spending $1500 on a weekend ski trip when my wife hates it and just wants to spend time in the lodge, and I could probably find a budget mexico week for only $500 more.

So today is supposed to be the first day for netfiling 2024 tax returns. It appears that no tax software package from any company has been certified by the CRA for 2024 yet. Submitting my already completed return is not possible today, so a minor gear grinder. I have never tried to file this early before. Is it normal for the CRA to whiff this first day of filing?

Ugh...'K-Ho' is even a new one for me.
What is wrong with "we're going skiing at Kickinghorse" ?
It takes about the same amount of time to say.

Yeah, WTF is wrong with the CRA and these "certified" tax software companies. You supposedly can import and auto-fill your T-slips starting today, but of course it is not working yet! Even though I kind of have a sense of my tax (and RRSP) situation, but it would be nice to have official documents in my tax software so that I can get an accurate picture, especially the RRSP deadline is next Monday.

You probably could have just stopped there.
Today is the first day of filing aaaand....nothing works. I should say that it works intermittently.
Yeah guys, thanks for giving me 3 months to do a job and then pissing a month of it away through sheer, unadulterated incompetence. Good stuff guys.

If you have cap gains you cannot netfile.

The last CRA person I talked to was so nice. Above and beyond awesome. I actually said “can I marry you”? At some point. 45 minutes of talking, couldn’t be better. We were making jokes about each other. Like that aunt at the wedding who likes bourbon.
Still owe $4500 though FFS, useless 91 yr old fataed his taxes somehow. Who’d a thought.

My dad passed away in 2023 and navigating mom's and his final taxes last year was a little bit messy. Also yeah, I've had a lot of positive experiences with CRA when I've called. Twice two different people went above and beyond to settle a few issues I was having. The cartoonish hyperbole some people invent to tell a story here is a bit much at times

Wait, what? At all, or just now. Because that is a huge PITA.
It's definitely been possible to netfile with capital gains in past years...

I have had some nightmarish calls though for sure. Nothing evil but useless.
Nothing though holds a candle to TDbank or Computershare. I have the actual stock certificate in my hands but I need a gold medallion stamp of approval to just send it in for the next steps . Try and find someone who does that stamp.
