Thanks for everyone’s feedback so far! It’s funny, the best reviewed set I have on my list is a Samsung, so I am definitely now hesitating…haha. I should have noted in my first post that we are on a well, so front load washers are a no go because the minerals in our water can really mess with the seal.

I’m going to call a few places today and see what else I can find out.

Do NOT trust reviews unless there are several big name, legitimate, (Consumer Reports) sites that coroborate them. There are even addons that will rank amazon reviews to determine if they are legitimate or not.

I would not put a Samsung appliance in my house if it was free and had an optional blow job port. Seriously. If anyone has not had a problem with a Samsung they just have to be patient. Garbage.

Like many in this thread, I did a ton of research before replacing an old set of front load Samsungs and landed on LG. They've been great, but I think going top load is a completely different proposition.

I had a very basic set of the cheapest white Whirlpool appliances at my old place that will probably run forever. If you are willing to spend a fair amount, everyone online swears by Speed Queen. They seem like a no-frills, commercial grade appliance.

Yah, my only concern with the Huebsch is if 3.2 cubic feet will be big enough for our king duvet cover. But seems like everyone agrees they are the most reliable.

One nice thing about LG is their flat rate after warranty repair system. Basically you fill out a form describing the model, when you bought it, and what the problem is and it quotes you a flat rate to fix it.

When the repair guy arrives he'll just throw parts at it until it's fixed. Happened to our fridge where it feels like he replaced half the fridge for something like $350.

Heubsch and Speed Queen are made by the same parent company and seem to even have the same model numbers for the same machines.

As I mentioned earlier, we have Heubsch in the laundry room of my building. I think at least one of the machines is branded as Speed Queen, but they're identical machines side-by-side.

Slightly off topic, but do people not occasionally run "light loads" on their washers/dryers and dishwashers?

Mine used to clog significantly more due to the way the rest of the family was basically abusing them. Once I started doing a few "light loads" (basically something that was just rinse to clean, add no detergent and set it on sanitize/equivalent), I'm not dealing with a minor repair/unclogging once per quarter. I'm dealing with them like once or twice every 1-2 years. I'm assuming it's also helping to alleviate the damage from certain "overloads" that occur on occasion.

Eggshells, scrambled eggs and onions are the primary clogging offenders for dishwasher; stickers, paper and gravel for washer, at my home.

For a cover, they will be fine. Don't think you can wash the actual duvet in it though.

My washer has an actual tub clean cycle. The dishwasher I run an empty load with a cleaning product about twice a year.

We bought an Amana stacking pair at Bowest Appliances last fall- Very knowledgeable staff there, and a large selection of both scratch and dent and last year's models made for great pricing as well

another vote for LG here. I bought mine second hand off a CPer 13years ago. The drain pump went on the washer about 5 years ago but I managed a DIY fix following a youtube video.

Been very happy with them

Just went through this.

Get the LG WM6500HBA washer from Costco with matching dryer DLEX6500B.

It’s the best pairing that is going to have everything you want, works great, good warranty, currently have $150 off.

Washer: https://www.costco.ca/.product.17129...h=true&nf=true

Dryer: https://www.costco.ca/.product.17129...h=true&nf=true

Edit: Just read your comment about being on a well.

Go with:

Washer: https://www.costco.ca/lg-6.1-cu-ft.-...h=true&nf=true

Dryer: https://www.costco.ca/lg-7.3-cu-ft.-...h=true&nf=true

We are on a well west of the city with water hard enough to walk on and have not had issues with our front load washer.

I did have to replace the Gas fueled dryer last year but the washer is going strong.

Ended up with an LG gas dryer and got good advice from https://www.thelaundrystore.ca/ a local shop worth supporting.

I think certain newer models don't have the clean tub cycle.

I say light loads as well since sometimes it's a chore to explain that the the clean tub cycle isn't a waste of money to run and some people are just weird in that they get confused by an empty but wet wash cycle.

So I say like 1/3 capacity at basically rinse level stuff on high heat. Cheaper than maintenance cost of someone showing up.

Looks like all the LGs have the tub clean cycle. They recommend you use bleach with it. Nice thing is it run fairly quickly.

Electrolux calls it "Clean Washer".

A dryer should last forever, and not need to replaced as often as the washer. Of course a mismatched set in your laundry room may not be for everyone. We could not care less.

The LG Fromm dryer has lasted 15-20 years and still going strong.

The Samsung top loading washer is 5 years old and we like it. It is very high capacity. Different opinions on which type of machine is more effective, but I like the top loader. It seems to get things very clean.

Yeah I finally had to replace the Maytag dryer in my condo recently, it lasted a long time.

The pair was one of the first front loading models sold in Calgary at the time. When we bought it we had to buy the HE detergent from Trail Appliances directly as almost zero stores in Calgary carried it.

Try and avoid Samsung. My new house came with everything Samsung smart appliances.. it’s cool while it works, but it tends to not work long. I’m a bit of a moron too, because I picked out one of these fridges that have a screen, and other bells and whistles… but that’s because I’m a man child and I like buttons and bright things.

We even have a ventless LG dryer and it's great, those things usually suck.
So +1 for LG.

Have had bad experience with Whirlpool.
