I really liked the whole first line tonight. They were regularly pushing the play in the o-zone and could have had more points.
Despite the goal, the 4th line was both good and terrible at times tonight. All I ask for that line is consistency. Need to find it. Pospisil was a good influence on that group. That goal doesn't happen without him making plays for his linemates.
Andersson was dog#### tonight. I rarely say that, but he looked worse than Barrie was of late. Just totally out to lunch. He's been trending that way for quite some time now. I hope he figures it out, either as a long-term piece here or as a trade bait. He's too good to play like that.
Also, FYI, I will of course be at the upcoming Flames/Panthers game with my son. The question is...do I go in Flames colors or Panthers colors? The choices are a either a Monahan or Iginla jersey, or a Bjugstad or Barkov jersey. Poll to be posted soon.

I have lived in a few different cities and have become a very big fan of certain franchises in other leagues.
But when it comes to the NHL, I am only ever a fan of the Flames.
I don't know from where your Flames fandom was borne, but I could never imagine cheering for a different team over the Flames. Fortunately my kids learned that as well, despite not having lived in Calgary. They are very used to wearing road team colors at NHL games.

It's tough to sell a Flames fandom over a Panthers one to my son. He's seen a lot of playoff success over the last few years, including a cup win that absolutely cemented him as a Panther fan. To be fair, I've become a very big Panthers fan over the years as well (see the moniker).
It's not that different to the Flames win in 1989. I was about the same age as he was last year when they won. That's what made me a hardcore Flames fan more than anything else. It's hard to tell him he should cheer for this mediocre franchise going through a rebuild over a championship team.
I still cheer for both teams equally. The jersey wearing is more about respect for the player than it is about hardcore cheering for a franchise. Just openly mulling the possibilities...

I find I agree with almost everything Huska says in any of his pressers. Ugly win and they’re going to have to get much faster for Tuesdays game. Hopefully Bahl is fully recovered from everything and we get his reliability back on D.

If we make playoffs, it will only be because of Dustin Wolf. And also the fact that every other team in the race is also a trash can.
Are the Canucks, Ducks, Blues even that good? That being said, clearly we aren't going to tank so playoffs is the next best option.
I think making the playoffs with the amount of young players we have on the team this year would be a big accomplishment and massive for their development.
I think they probably need to win at least 2 on this road trip. It could decide how the rest of the season goes and what happens at the deadline

Whats this thing called hockey and how do we play it.

I think you skate in a circle, fall over, and occasionally punch someone in the face.

Getting dunked on is gonna feel nostalgic. I did very much miss Sharks hockey.

I feel very rusty at this--I can only imagine how the players are going to be tonight!
Can't say I like this goaltending matchup.

Hope the rookies got a restorative break

Can’t believe how much I missed these bottom feeders the past two weeks! What’s the over/under on how long before we’re all begging for another break haha.
7 game road trip with multiple back-to-backs is absolutely brutal coming straight out of the break, but I wouldn’t expect anything different from sharks scheduling.
Quote:
Oh how I've missed this team... ready for whatever the evening brings us.

It just hit me that the Sharks aren’t as good as the US four nations team

Watching the US/Canadian defenses and then watching the Sharks is beyond jarring

Watching this after the 4 nations really is something

Two Minutes for Having Punchable Face

Lmao wat. Dellandrea 2 minutes for getting hit.

Ty gets a penalty for allowing himself to get punched in the face WHAT THE ACTUAL...

that’s the worst call I’ve ever seen
Zary punched Dellandrea while Backlund held him.
Only Zary wasn’t penalized of those three
I cannot
Quote:
Why did Dellandrea get a penalty
Quote:
For getting punched, obviously.

Our guy has to go to concussion protocol and the refs are like yeah he committed the penalty

Holy #### what an absolutely criminal call. Are they blind?

Bro that penalty is actually ####in ridiculous.
What did Dellandrea do? Is he getting penalized for getting punched or something??

His face hurt a flames' hand!

Ok, precedent now says: #### tripping and #### hitting and #### holding
Just punch people hard enough for the concussion spotter to remove your victim from the game

Punching someone? When has a player on this sharks team ever punched someone? Usually they are just used as punching bags

There was that time Demers punched a ref.

You’re telling me a guy gets sent into concussion protocol and still gets a 2 minute penalty? Make that make sense. Then the team that should be on the PK scores shortly after. Brutal call

thrun getting flat out beat
Quote:
It seems that management and the coaches see something in Thrun. Thrun clearly sees something in himself. But maybe asking him to play like Slavin is a bad idea. Get him to play like a Dillon or a Ruuta; down to his level as a bottom-pairing D-man and he could have more success...

Robbed of a power play that becomes a goal against. What a joke.

Wow, Georgiev is a rebound machine. I see why you guys call him Fourgiev. The defense bailed him out at lesst 3 times on that PP.

No 4giev and our Calder candidate scored on theirs so it is what it is. Team actually looked pretty good at points.

Corruption to keep Calgary in playoff contention. Plain and simple.
On the plus side, that was one of, if not THE best, commitments to structure we've seen from the Sharks all season.

I believe that Iyla Solovyov's NHL ceiling with the Flames is still as high as a 2nd pairing LD that can sub in as a RD whenever necessary.
He's shown that he can put up some points this season, he's been a 1/2 point a game with the AHL Wranglers.
Perhaps he could still top out as a hybrid NHL D, but a defensive D is probably his future in the NHL.
Thank you as always for the around the league report!
I visited the Oilers forum and they are in absolute meltdown mode. Lots of fans saying their window is over, and the team will never win a cup. I hope they keep it up!

Why don't you go in either of your Flames jerseys and then your son in a Panthers jersey, presuming he has one.

Good teams find a way to win. Also, Sharks are a team that are improving, so maybe it wasn't all on the Flames coming out flat. Glad that they got these points before heading off on this tough trip.
