What? You act like there’s no discussion between management and a player at any point and that the player overreacts to the situation expecting that a call up means they’re here for a while and on the edge of being put in the six and it’s a shocking travesty that he was sent down so soon.

It’s not complicated like many are making it out to be.

“Yan we’re gonna call you up while the Wranglers have a gap in games because we want to reward you with a bit of NHL money and get you around the Flames, into some video/practice/etc, and because though there’s no promises there’s always possibility that we can get you up again and into some game action with the big club before the end of the season. That will be good for your development and help you
be further ahead next time we can bring you up.” Happens all the time all over the league.

Nailed it. I don't think sympathy is really in order in a case like this. Maybe a crumb of sympathy for the reporters who didn't actually know what was going on, and asked their questions on the mistaken assumption that he was staying up.

I’m just saying that a human being can be disappointed when they get called up and immediately told ‘yeah we called you up to send you down.’

I think there is space between being a human and being a 100% all-business hockey player where you can fit in a touch of disappointment that a call-up isn’t going to lead to a sliver of playing time. Not sure why that’s such a hard thing to acknowledge. Especially for young players trying to make the NHL.

Not everyone has the cool, calm, 100% dispassionate NHL-is-a-business-every-single-minute-of-my-life demeanor that you may have mastered.

I firmly believe they didnt call them up without telling them their intentions.
If anything, I think it went more along the lines of, we really like what you are doing with the Wranglers and as a reward you will be coming up to the big club for a few days for a learning experience. Keep up the good work. Make us proud. By the way enjoy the pay check.

Kuznetzov is not making big bucks in ahl. I am sure he is happy. He will get a chance! He came from Russia to play here big expenses!
