Those guys always are undervalued.

With a rising cap his $4.3M salary for 5 more years is not prohibitive at all even if it's just a 3rd pairing role, and gives a piece that can help the young RH shots like Parekh, Brzstewicz, etc as they join the team.

Him and Bahl would give you two reliable, big dmen on the LH side that can help the younger guys adjust. And both only turn 25 this year.

Would people give Bahl 5 x $4.3M right now - if the answer is yes then there should be no issue trading for Samuelsson.
Still seems super wasteful to take on a bad contract to get Krebs. Maybe if they attach some picks, but that doesn't seem realistic anymore.

If Calgary is trading with Buffalo its not Krebs, they're not very keen on him.
Its Cozens or bust with Buffalo.
But I expect to see more moves here, there's a real interest in Cozens but its the return from Calgary which is the curveball.
Doors not closed for sure, Adams and Conroy have been in talks for a while now.

I think the argument is that Samuelsson is not a bad contract and with a change of scenery will be well worth the money but could be a deal Buffalo looks to move so they can give a nice extension to Byram. The size and age fit what the Flames are trying to do.

That it's a "bad" contract only matters if it hampers what you want to do with your team.

Does a change of scenery help with a player being injured all the time?

WE also have left handed dman in the system and we don't even look at.

Really the focus needs to stop being trying to make trades for bit pieces and focus on creating room for guys who are pushing and trying to find elite talent because we aren't winning anything with a bunch of middle 6 players. We know this and saw it with Sutter.

Very happy to hear that. Krebs has like 80 pts in 260 career games. He's a bottom 6 guy that doesn't do much of anything other then keep other young players out of the lineup.

Trading Mews for Cozens is more like Adams robbing Conroy.

Huh? That's insane... Mews may not ever make the NHL.

So if the Flames are wearing Adams and the Sabers down on the Cozens return, I'm really curious about the package they're sending to Buffalo.

I'm automatically throwing in one of the 2025 1st round picks. We will call it the higher of the two at the end of the year. After that, a roster player who doesn't have trade protection and has a cap hit. Then a pretty good prospect .

All that changes though if there's more coming back.

At this point, I just want to see Cozens in a Flames jersey just to see Paulie Walnuts blow a head gasket. I mean aside from the fact there's many of us who think (rightly or wrongly) that Cozens blooms into a pretty good player away from Buffalo.

That may be true, but he is a top prospect and is progressing well and those players get you in the game for top talent not a Dylan Cozens.

Sharangovich is already just as good as Cozens and throwing in a 1st.

Tough call. If that’s not enough to get Cozens then I think the price is too high. That’s a 30 goal scorer last year who is finally getting back into form, a first round pick and a prospect who, in a re-draft today likely goes in the first round or early 2nd round.

Not saying it’s too much but it is a lot for two guys that are big question marks at this point - Samuelsson is on a bad contract for what he brings at this point and who knows if Cozens returns to form - he hasn’t shown any hints of it in essentially 2 full seasons.

Would be sad to see Mews go because he is such a great prospect right now but I would probably say this trade is a decent gamble to take. It’s trading from positions of strength (wingers and right-shot, puck-moving defencemen) to positions of weakness (centres and left-shot defensive defencemen). It ends up getting the guy that Conroy covets most (Cozens).

Samuelsson is bad. And a bandaid. Huge pass in my opinion.

Solovyov is the best of that bunch, and he's only 4 months younger than Samuelsson.

If you can acquire a guy like Samuelsson for nothing it's a good move.

He's still young, fills a role on this team, and has high potential.

Acquiring a guy like Samuelsson doesn't prevent you from getting elite talent.

Mews was a savvy pick who is exciting and tracking well, but let's not over-state his value. He does not get you in the game for top talent.

Well its not nothing, its 4.3M for 5 more years. Why not give our own players a look.

This is the same thing Treliving did, trading away picks for a bunch of meh while we had talent in the pipeline.

I didn't just mean him alone, but him along with that package of picks and players.

You don't deal that package for a 40 point player who is tracking to be a winger.

The last time this team got obsessed with a player and overpaid for him he ruined our team. All the underlying stats pointed to a player who stunk and he did and he also took others down with him as well and quit on the team during the bubble.

I read that Friedman said that Carolina could retain and move Rantanen at the deadline. Am I missing something here?
