Good for him, long time backup and worked himself into a starter at the ripe age of 30.

This is a good price, and between him and Demko, they obviously make an effective and still not overly expensive pairing. The fact that he is almost 30 though makes me a little bit leary of the length of the contract. Maybe he will be able to play well throughout the length of the contract but given the Canucks goaltenders and injuries I wouldn't bet on it.

Umm okay...

He's been a career 1B that has never played more than 37 games in a season and has a career .905.

Not a bad goalie but seems weird to commit money to him before you do something with Demko.

Demko is likely getting shut down this season and I am not sure what that means for next year, which is the final year of his contract.

4.5m is not a lot with the cap going up next year. As long as there is minimal trade protection you're fine. But the reality is Demko's career as an NHL starter is likely done before it starts.

Canucks had 4 elite players last season: Miller, Petterson, Demko, Hughes

Crazy to think that by next season they may just have Hughes who is elite.
That is a Flames level drop-off.

Everyone knew last year was a fluke and it was prob the best chance of winning a cup in the next 25 years.

For them to choke it against the Oilers ruined them. Just like how it ruined us when we lost to them.

With the amount of injuries demko has had, he’s probably being held together by duct tape at this stage.

Meh. It's fine. He's at worst a 1B, at best a league average starter. This does take him to 34 though so it might age poorly.

Hard not to be bitter about having him on the board and taking Mason Macdonald, but in the end, Demko only really gave the Nucks 2 seasons of 50+ games since being drafted in 2014, and five total playoff games.

Better than nothing which is what we got from Macdonald, but a far, far cry from Kidd versus Brodeur.

Seems odd they took a guy for free a few months ago and now he gets an oilers contract?
Well done agents, I guess.

Not bad for a guy who had previously signed a one-year at near league minimum, days before the start of the season.

The Canucks would be near the bottom of the league without Kevin Lankinen.

As an aside, there is some talk that Demko's current status is a factor into why Ian Clark has not got another job right away. Apparently there are a few people in the NHL that have noticed that Ian Clark goalies, while usually elite while playing, tend to burn down very fast with how hard he pushes them. Not sure how real it is, but apparently it was pointed out by Kevin Woodley.

I don’t argue a bit with what he’s meant to the team this year, and he’s probably a good bet for the future in some way.
My only thing is scrap heap to 5yrs and 20m in 4 months? I don’t think they needed to do that.

They offered 2.5 and 3m for the same length of time. Lankinen rightfully said no.

The UFA goalie market is apparently thin this year, so he likely would have gotten paid somewhere.
