But they aren't pumping CO2 underground, which is known to increase seismicity. It's not that the integrity of the data centre is the concern, it's that they have the possibly of creating quakes, which have strict rules in Alberta, and which may jeopardize the project. If you can't sink the CO2, it becomes a pretty big hit to our CO2 budget. If anyone cares anymore.

Well, I can tell you that its a big point of contention right now. Rob Anderson is championing that the UCP policy recommendations around Carbon pricing mean that TIER should be totally scrapped, especially if Poilievre wins federally. This would probably terminate all under investigation ccus projects in the province, and some other big projects.

Remains to be seen which way the wind will blow on if those in power care about CO2 anymore.

I think some are smart enough to see the significant money still behind these projects and that gives them pause. But largely I would agree that they are unsympathetic to the climate angles.

Point being, people putting computers on shaky ground isn't a new thing.

Just looking at:
Quote:
Grande Prairie Net Zero Gateway
  • Proponent: NorthRiver Midstream, Keyera and Entropy
  • Geological formation: Belloy Formation
  • Proposed Capacity: 3,300,000 tonnes CO2 per year
  • Lease area: 93,952 hectares (10 townships)
  • Location: North-West of Grande Prairie
https://chinookpetroleum.com/carbon-...ojects-canada/

If my Friday math isn't off, a 800MW gas plant will produce ~ 3,500,000 tonnes C02 per year. So phase one would already consume the capacity being looked at for the area.

Point being, computers on shaky ground is zero percent of the concern I'm discussing.
