The vile hatred for players on team USA and even Gretzky now is disturbing. Try reading up on the definition of fascist and you might not want to use the term so loosely to label others.
The people who tolerate you on a daily basis are the real heroes.

I need to confess. I've not been the biggest hockey Canada fan for a long time. I've always been Flames first, so when Iggy was on the team it was easy. After that, cheering for rival players never felt right. Then you have all of the Hockey Canada scandals and I was basically done with them. I found nationalism creepy in some aspects.

Coming into the tournament, I was cheering for Rasmus and Sweeden, not even watching the games. I'd watch the highlights after and hope to see McDavid racking up the minuses.

This morning though, the "Canada 51st state" thing finally cracked me. I overall really like this country and what most of us stand for, and am pissed that other people don't want to be our friends and let us be us. My nationalism has been on an exponential upward trend lately.

I admit it. When I woke up, I decided I'd root for McDavid to do well as he's part of this team. I wouldn't have hoped for him to have the moment of glory if I drew it up, but I just wanted someone to put the puck in the damn net, and I was excited as hell when he did it.

The switch is flipped off tomorrow. He's a bum, a loser - yes, an Oiler as of the morning. I feel dirty, but I think I'm ok with it.

This is proving my point that Canadians aren't as open minded and accepting as they claim to be. I couldn't care less what your political leanings are. It's a hockey site quickly becoming over populated with pretend tough guys. It's going way beyond intense sporting competition when you're this triggered. Amazing...

Stick to hockey, leave the politics and labeling out of it. I recall a very recent discussion about Pride events not ending well so let's not repeat it on a good site for Flames fans.

We've never been open minded or accepting as #######s. We have a proud history of taking them out on the battlefield.

Being accepting is protecting the downtrodden that people like Trump happily take advantage of for personal gain.

Wait wait wait wait....

Vile hatred? Yeah, if Mordor wants to take middle earth, there's gonna be some hatred. The eye of Sauron has turned it's gaze on us and we are supposed to be nice and sympathetic about it? Nah. Don't start none, won't be none.

If you support a person who is openly threatening my countries independence, and who is calling our country the "51st state" then you're my enemy.

Hard stop.

This isn't some little game that Trump is playing. Look at his support of Putin. Look at how he's now blaming Ukraine for the war between Russia and the Ukraine.

Look at how his party members are using Nazi symbolism and are meeting with Nazi Sympathizers of the far right party in Germany.

Look at how he's trying to bend the rule of law in US government to try to break the checks and balances that exist as part of the US constitution.

People downplaying what he does, sucking up to him, and ignoring the clear signs that this guy is a facist that wants to be a dictator in the U.S. is why the U.S. let themselves get into this mess to start with.

Is there an "Around the World" report for this tournament? Just checking if I missed Gaskal's post if there was one.

The irony here is that you seem to have a very tough time understanding why a group of people would be upset when the leader of a country suggests that they should no longer exist and bring that energy into an international competition against said country. Yet, it is Canadians that are closed minded. Being open minded doesn’t mean accepting or tolerating hostility to a person’s identity.

I much preferred the Johnny Hockey chants over the USA chants. I was happy to hear that all night.
