Worst fears about Trump winning the election look to be coming true which unfortunately includes the fact that he is now sympathetic to Russia.
Social media echo chambers and Russian trolls have corrupted many low IQ people into believing loads of misinformation. The fact these facists leaders claim to be fighting for freedom has lead to a lot of people willingly let a dictator sweep their true freedoms under the feet.
I do not doubt for a second the majority of the US will be convinced that Canada, Europe and others are just countries looking for a handout from them and it makes more sense to just take their land and resources.

Which is sad because that just reeks of MAGA hypocrisy.
If there's anyone that MAGA supporters love nearly as much as Trump, it's Reagan. While Reagan is largely responsible for the facade of trickledown economics and the pending income inequality it's created, as well as all of the theocratic encroachment on the government, his defining accomplishment was ending the cold war and breaking up the USSR creating all of these sovereign nations, not the least of which is Ukraine.
If you read the Mike Lange thread, who passed away yesterday, he recounts a story about Jagr loving Reagan, because he stood up to communism. Trump, a Republican president, is now a Russian pawn? It's shameful how the GOP let this happen. To 'own the libs"

I guess Reagan and Lincoln can spin in their graves together.

Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency put a $1 spending limit on most credit cards belonging to employees and contractors of the General Services Administration—a critical agency that manages IT and office buildings for the US government—along with at least three other federal agencies. Similar restrictions are expected to roll out to the entire government workforce soon, according to several sources familiar with the matter.
Must have been some insurmountable reason they couldn't just cancel the cards, so sure. $1. Richest man on Earth.
Likely a clause in the providers contract that X numbet of cards need to be activated or a penalty applies.
That said, this tried and true method of zero based budget shock and awe has worked effectively at about zero orgs I have worked with. Often its done to appear like money is being saved on a balance sheet, but in reality it just moves things down the road.
Given my experience with this type of work. I can fathom a room of DOGE workers ripping through data they don’t fully understand. All in hopes of sending Musk a shiny pearl. We saw it this week with social security.
All this will donis create a culture of fear and chaos leading to disaster. I would bet the farm disaster is coming likely in the next 18 months. Maybe sooner, as I have seen aggressive zero based done but not at this scale and speed.

Amen, if this was a corporation I would be shorting the stock hard because it seems like they're kicking out the legs.

Based on prior work experience I also agree with that take. Frankly I do hope they reap the whirlwind squarely during Trump's term given the propensity for people to assign blame to the then-current administration. Maybe right before the midterm elections... ha

This Reagan speech from '88 oughta be played to the MAGA gang:

Lots of doom and gloom, and for good reason. This has been a concerning last few weeks.
For what it’s worth, friends of mine in the US that have connections in DC are of the view that Trump will not have time before the midterms to fully undermine US democracy. Not that he isn’t going to try as hard as possible, clearly he is, just that the runway isn’t long enough for him before a rebuke at the midterms.
I’m hopeful that is true, and that some checks and balances will still remain by then.

I'm one of the few non-MAGAs still on Twitter - the live sports coverage is still the best, and sports reporters/journalists are all still there - this clip made the rounds last week (which I re-tweeted).
The MAGA response seemed to be: "this is a long time ago, a lot has changed since then...". When I asked what had specifically changed to cause you to turn on your allies, there was no response. Still waiting....
Basically, there's nothing you can do or say to change their minds. They're too dug in, it's basically a sport to them. And they'll never stop rooting for their "team", no matter what.

Damn, this hits hard, and I'm in total agreement as well. Everytime I see a company spin some fancy massive "operational efficiency" project like this, it always ends in disaster, and the company comes out of it worse than when it started. They basically take a baseball bat to a problem that needs way more surgical precision to tease out efficiencies, and by doing to, they kneecap a lot of stuff that's aleady working smoothly along with the inefficient stuff.

Please get off of Xitter and stop supporting the fascists. Every additional active account boosts advertiser reach, which means X can charge more and have more resources for spreading bull####. Once your sports accounts start losing followers, they'll leave too. The cost to you? A few months without minute by minute updates. Seems worth it to help prevent the loss of democracy around the world.

I can’t discuss U.S. politics or the Ukraine war anymore at home. It disturbs my wife’s sleep. She worries the morons are leading us into WWIII. I do too.

Won't be even remotely hard for them to stop elections. One false flag terrorist attack + implementation of Marshall law = Elections suspended. At this point assuming checks and balances will be silver bullet to stop them going full fascist is truly hope against hope.

I’ve personally overseen and been responsible for large corporate restructurings.
The way they are approaching this is consistent with causing paralysis of the organization, which at this point is what I am assuming to be the goal.

Trust me, if you saw the amount of spats I get in with those clowns on there, you'd know I'm not supporting it. Someone has to push back on the MAGA echo chamber on that app! I try to avoid it, but sometimes I just can't help myself..
I'm more still there out of stubbornness: I've been a member since 2009 and have been heavily using it the whole time, it's my only social media addiction (I never really cared about Facebook/Instagram, etc). Feels like I'm running away if I leave; "don't let bad people change you", etc etc.
I try to stick to just the sports/comedians parts, but admittedly it's getting harder and harder, and starting to affect my mentals a little. I may have to leave eventually. Can all the sports reporters just consistently join one of the other apps please? It'd really help...
