Calling players up just to practice and give them NHL money for a few days is odd. I’d imagine something is coming, some moves, albeit small.

Says to me that maybe the two are getting several practices to become more fully integrated into the team system, rather than called up for spot duty.

Except they have sent guys down this season during off days with no obvious reason beyond money saving.
I doubt this is just a reward, maybe Barrie and Miromanov are out of rope and goin to be waived/sent down.

Ya, I probably shouldn’t have quoted you how I posted.

Willing to reward guys for a period but not put them on permanent NHL pay just because. They’re also managing an AHL roster, practice and travel coordination for two teams. Flames off days don’t necessarily mean Wranglers off days and surely there’s constant discussion about the Wranglers wanting their call-ups back.

Showcasing as many of the farm guys as possible for the trade deadline.
We aren't getting Crosby as a rental, for free.

Having guys at NHL practise has real development value.

It does, but it still asks the question as to why they'd need to come up and practice with 6 or 7 other D. How much do you really get out of that?
At the skate yesterday was
Bahl, Weegar, Hanley, Miromanov, Bean & Pachal.
Bean went down after they had already arrived and Barrie wasn't present. I assume he's being sent down or maybe even put on waivers for termination at this point.
Andersson I don't think was there but might be back today.
Usually when players get called up its one at a time and they hit the road with the team. Thats the reward. Pay and lifestyle.
Bringing two guys up (from down the hall) to join a crowded D group just to have them watch or run a few drills? Again, odd.

I recall Hanifin or his agent pretty much saying he wanted to go to Tampa, so Brisebois had a lowball offer in figuring he had it locked.
Then Connie swung the trade with Vegas for a package that is better than the alleged/rumored package Tampa was offering.

Correct. Vegas was never expressed as a desired destination leading to the trade though he is buddies with Eichel apparently. But no one connected those dots until afterwards. Then he signed for 8 years after only being there briefly.
I recall a lot of surprise the night he was dealt.
Edit - Re: dot connecting. If I'm not mistaken Sec had a post that night which people interpreted as him going to the Kings. No one thought Knights lol

So ultimately, Connie was handcuffed due to the limited NTC and he got more from Vegas than Tampa, the preferred location for Hanifin. This counters the questions on whether he could have extracted more from another team. Connie worked with what he had available to him, imo.

Bye Barrie, it was nice knowing you.
You too, Miromanov. You disappointed us.

I must confess I don't really get why people are complaining about bringing up some AHL guys for a few days when the team is not playing. Is there a negative aspect to this? The Flames lose maybe 4 days of 900 000 each divided into those 4 days? I'm not good at math but that surely can't be an amount that is going to cripple the team in any way.

Still not what you might want or expect from a talent of Hanifin's caliber but without knowing exactly what he could have got from Tampa, the 2026 unprotected 1st round pick was as good a lottery ticket as he was probably going to get.

Something you are hearing ? I think the Kuz call up is a reward and he won’t get into game action. That’s unless you are hearing the other 2 are on waivers

I havent got any major details, but I was told the callups were not strictly just for NHL salary for practice days.

Pat and Wes on Flames Talk were speculating yesterday that Barrie is at a bit of a crossroads and the call ups are in relation to that potentially.

Guys were sent down and never played with the Wranglers. Just paper transactions.
In any case, pretty sure these are not just paper callups to reward them.
Bahl, Pachal and Hanley have exceeded expectations.
Miromanov, Barrie and Bean have not.
This is the time of year that you deal with the underperformers at the bottom parts of the roster and give others a chance.

There's more going on than games though.
