lol, imagine messaging someone random you met for like 15-20 minutes to buy collectibles from, 7 years later.

I recall he didn't even respond back then when I called and messaged him at the storage locker location back then. I just had to wander around and figure it out based on his PM/post in the buy and sell.

I'd be surprised if I even got, "New phone, who dis?"

Did anyone else know him IRL other than to meet him to do the occasional buy/sell?

I'm not that interesting. He was the interesting one.

If you look at one of his last posts in the "what did your folks do" thread, that's basically how he was when chatting in real life. He probably could have been a damn good song writer. Bob at UrbanX is a master conversationalist (if anyone has chatted with him while waiting for work to be done) and OMG!WTF! was next level. I now wonder a little bit if this is how people feel when they meet Craig Conroy. Their stories just stick out.

After I met him, he did completely disappear deeper into the locker to look for something specific from his childhood or something. He called out from somewhere inside saying he wouldn't walk us out, so we loaded the stuff on a nearby dolly and left. When we turned the corner, my wife did wonder if he'd randomly appear and start chasing us down the hallway saying he wanted to undo the deal. "What if he wants his mom's beanie babies back?"

I laughed because the idea seemed so silly. If he chased us down the hallway wanting his mom's beanie babies back, that's like some reverse Five nights at Freddy's ####. lol. And funny to me because my wife wondered about being chased for the beanie babies, not the 3 totes of other stuff we bought from him.

Based on that story alone, you NEED to text him.

Swallow your pride and tell him to get back on CP.

So my crappy dog scratches the bottom freezer door when people are talking and it’s not about his loser ass.

Is there a way I can glue some sort of sound pad to the door that I could hook up to the sound system that is him being a DJ scratching a record?

I was re-watching Richard Jewell recently and...in the FBI interrogation scene I realize that I have the exact same tie as Richard Jewell.

I felt that was Random enough to warrant renown in this thread.

Speaking of people with interesting stories, reminded me of working with a consultant in Ottawa. He told me he had been on a contract somewhere in Indonesia, and was at a bar one evening. A guy sat next to him and they start a conversation. The guy ends up telling the consultant that he should buy a certain stock, and just make sure he sells before a certain date.

So the consultant had some liquid capital at the time and invested in the stock, then sold before the date he was given and made a killing - enough that apparently, he was only now consulting now for fun. Anyways, sometime after selling his stock, he saw news reports that geologist Michael deGuzman had died falling out of a helicopter, and he recognized him as the guy who he talked to in the bar. The consultant had been given an insider tip on Bre-X, and was probably one of only a handful who made money off of the stock.

I think I have less sway than Richard Jewell. That movie was heart-breaking.

Also he died at 44 and I'm a few years off from that yet...

Yes, it was heartbreaking, and now that I look at it, I don’t like my little attempt at humor there.

But you’re CP famous! That should count for something.

That might be more...'infamous' than anything really.

Are you younger than 44? I had you pegged much, much, much older.

Thank you?

I'm actually fairly far off from 44.

Let’s see. I joined in 2008 and thought he was about 30 then.

I remember chatting with some poster who kept telling me he looked like a rockstar. Don’t recall his name. Then there was the GreenTeaFrappe/ Original Random Thoughts thread controversy.

That was a really difficult time for me. The puck helped me make it through. Locke was always cool.

Oh now thats signature-worthy stuff right there!

"Looks like a Rockstar" might be a bit of a stretch unless its perhaps Current-Day Ozzy?

Or someone who is dead.

Did he recently disclose he’s 67, or was that someone else? Probably some other old fart. I wonder who the oldest member is, who’s still breathing.

Flamesfever is apparently 87 but that kind of got lost in the crazy bigot rants he was doing.

I hate to be morbid and ask who’s still around. But I wonder.

We should do a roll call — ages by decades or half decades.

Decade 6. That’s how I knew COBOL.

I do act more mature and rational in person. Sometimes.

Is CapnCrunch still out and about? FlamesGimp?
