All I know is I've been loling at everyone here who was saying this was a nothing tournament that wouldn't even be worth watching.

Bros. These guys have been hungry for this. It's a whole generation of players who have never had a chance to play for their countries as pros. There isn't a player in this entire tournament who's been mailing it in.

I kept my mouth shut, because I've learned that it's useless arguing with people about things that haven't happened yet. It's so much more fun to just laugh afterwards. Like everyone who said Chucky was gonna be nothing without Johnny, or Florida was a garbage team that wasn't gonna make the playoffs etc etc. Zero ramifications or accountability means those same people to this day just keep opining away on everything like they're some sort of voice of authority.

I knew this tournament was gonna be good, and I'm having a blast watching some of the best hockey we've seen in a looooong time!

...It really hasn't been a very good tournament. (Didn't watch the Canada-USA -game, that one apparently was actually something.)

Great players, bad teams who clearly haven't practiced together, and every team clearly has some players that are really feeling it and others who are going through the motions.

Seriously, that Finland - Sweden -game was the least intensive battle between those teams I've seen in a while on any level. High skill, very mid effort.

Fastest hockey doesn’t make for the best hockey. It’s an opinion. It’s been more intense than anticipated but I only watched the US vs Canada game. The US played in a shell and Canada just skated around. Kind of like the WJC take the best players and try to win 7-5 this isn’t a 7 game series to grind teams down.

I just said it was intense.

Banning Russia for political reasons probably doesn’t make sense anymore either when you have a dummy like Trump cozying up to him. Has banning their athletes really put any pressure on them to change their ways.

If they get to play in the NHL and collect a big paycheque might as well add them back to these things.

Yeah these games have been great.

Today's game was maybe a bit less intense, but picked up in those final 3 minutes for sure.

What really shows in these games though is just how good the best defenders and NHL forwards are at defending too.

These games aren't low scoring and tight because they don't play together a lot. They are low scoring and tight because everyone is bought in and you have the best players in the world playing tight checking and in a structure.

You seem to care an awful lot about being right and others being wrong.
Who cares if someone said Florida was a garbage taem and ended up being wrong. Why does it matter?
It's awesome that you are enjoying the tournament. Enjoy it for what it is, not because it's proven you right in some way that seems to matter to you.

What type of accountability are looking for when people have opinions about hockey and end up being wrong? Should they be suspended from the site? Fined an undisclosed amount? Mocked relentlessly?
What exactly are you looking for?

No one expected that a ban would drive political change. It makes a statement that Putin’s politics are unacceptable and should, in my opinion, continue. Add the U.S. but that will never happen.

Swe and Finn both said they would pull out if Russia was in. US hasnt actually used force to attack anyone yet.

And FAST. And not just fast from a skating POV. Fast in terms of the decision making. Any hesitation causes problems.
The ability to think the game at that speed is part of why these guys are the best in the NHL and the world.

Pawwwleeeee NoNuts, both Finland and Sweden said they wouldn't be part of this tournament if Russia was involved.

Why do you even care? Didn't you say this tournament was stupid and no one would watch? You sure like talking about it

You clearly didn't tune into the Eurasian Championship back in '19 then!

Well it’s getting close and cozying up with Russia. It’s just interesting they are ok to play with and against them in the NHL.

It's not that the players don't care or the quality of the game isn't high. It's that this is a made up tournament for money. While launching this tournament on the first day, they literally remade the tournament and rebranded it again to World Cup of Hockey and expanded it to many more countries. Imagine FIFA starting out the Euro Cup, excluding the most recent European winners and then on day #1 launching another tournament name from 12 years prior and including non European countries?

There is nothing wrong with having full international tournament including the best NHL players but it has to be global.
