Zary Mercer
Frost Coronato

Are two solid pairs to build around up front. Gridin basha battaglia Honzek could all rotate through until there’s some separation

We are going to have to get lucky on this one.

Someone will need to pop or some amazing draft lucked will be needed.

Everyone knows we lack and elite centre, thing is, they are incredibly difficult to acquire.

Cozens has a better chance at being a #1C than Mercer. This team needs elite players to compete.

That's why GM's get paid the big bucks. Just saying that's not enough to build around.

Well the thing is any trade bait player has a "buyer beware" sticker on it if you're looking to add Elite young talent outside of the draft. And if your team just isn't going to drop into the lottery you're simply not going to get those elite talent players.

In the Flames case, they have maybe found an elite player or two on D and in net. But since the Goalie isn't letting you get that key center via the draft, the Flames only real option is adding as much talent as best they can outside of the draft.

So really in the end, this is kind of the mushy middle ppl keep bringing up. They can't seem to complete the puzzle or get that last ingredient to complete the dish.

So in my estimation, the Flames plan of attack needs to be what they're doing, bring in their developed assets, and surround them with as much capable talent as possible. In the end you're likely going to end up with few 2nd line centers , some good wingers and they'll have to rely on strength of depth instead of a high top end.

Thats the way it just seems it's going to go for the Flames.

Or you buy one in free agency if you don’t hit on your picks. My bet is that will happen in the next 2 to 3 years

Was it Tavares?

We have the goalie now it seems. Some solid vets. Makings of a half decent D corp.

Trouble is our fancy forwards are a few years away. I think there might be some stop gap plugs until then. I highly doubt we are tanking.

Technically sure Tavares hit UFA but he was never going to sign anywhere but T.O but yeah I think so. Prime age 1st line Center? Think he might be the only one since Brad Richards way back when.

This demonstrating how impossible it would be to acquire one.

Need to kinda get lucky with first line centres. Either you get lucky or you stink enough to draft one.

Who was the best #1C drafted in later rounds in recent memory? Bergeron? Are there many others? It seems like a slim hope.

Brayden Point? Chandler Stephenson? Pavel Datsyuk, Jamie Benn. I'd put Datsyuk ahead of anybody IMO.

And to add to how hard it is, I don't necessarily believe you could trade a Zayne Parekh for a young top line center either. Unless the two teams are addressing very specific needs and deal from positional strength. That's still an extremely narrow tight rope to walk when it comes to dealing your best prospect for another teams.

An elite C is nice but not a necessity. I would rather have four lines of great depth. I think you can win a Cup without an elite C if you have an elite puck moving D man and a stud goalie.

Marginally, and he's already being paid like one despite not being close.

#1C is pretty much needed to win a cup. Without one you are not winning.
