Mercer for Andersson straight up is not enough. Sorry, just isn’t.

Nemec is a very recent second overall. RHD. This would be very good for both teams. Win now for Jersey, insane future RHD depth for Calgary.
2026 2nd
Nemec
Tatar (cap dump)
for
Andersson (50%)

Nemec would have to be an upgrade on the current pipeline of RHS D the Flames have in the system. Parekh, Mews, Brzustewicz all RHS 20 years old or younger. Nemec, you would assume, would project as a top 4 guy, for sure. Certainly the Flames shouldn’t assume that all their prospects will pan out but as it looks right now, it looks pretty good.
The Flames have been telling anyone willing to listen for some time now that they want a RHS C under 25. If there is legitimacy to the discussion between Andersson and Mercer, the Flames are going to have to make a tough decision because their options otherwise are looking slim to nonexistent.

Agree with you. I like Mercer, but I don’t see him as a coveted top 6 center prospect anymore but I surely could be wrong. A retained Andersson would be worth far more than Mercer alone I believe.

No legs to anything on Andersson I’m told, the only person the Flames are looking to move currently would be Vladar.

Makes sense to me, the Flames are still way too close to the cut line to think about moving major pieces. Going into the Philly and Dallas games I think will give us a good idea of where things sit, if the flames ended up standing pat it wouldn’t be the end of the world IMO.

At this point I’d happily place Roons on waivers and call up Stromgren

Yup. For me it’s kinda like the duehr waiver claim. Yes they got nothing for him but the option was taken away from coaching staff to use him. Considering rooney is a center , I’m pretty sure he would get claimed. That would eliminate the option for coaching staff to use him, which would be a win in my eyes.

Not a surprise. They've done a good job with this posture all season which was a stated goal of the team from minute 1. Don't be in the rumor mill.
But all of that is likely to change in a couple weeks here. Keep thirsty Fitz on the sideline for now.

I mean, the OG Andersson rumor post wasn't about the Flames shopping Andersson. It was NJ coming after Andersson. Im sure a lot of teams are calling about Andersson. And we've heard from Connys own mouth he's not looking to move him and wants to sign him.
What we don't know for certain is, where does Andersson sit on deciding his future. I know he's said he'd like to stay as well but also said it's business, who knows what'll happen.
If a team comes at Conny with an offer he cannot refuse, I'm sure there'll be discussion.

This 100%. Hockey is a business. If Conroy gets an overpay he has to take it and run. The Flames have overachieved this year and are a long way from being a real contender. If you get a key piece that fits this teams growth trajectory better, I don’t think he has a choice but to make a deal.

To be fair I think if NJD were offering Mercer and Nemic the deal would be done.
Calgary is very high on Mercer.

Oh 100%, that’s a pipe dream. I find it interesting that most people like Mercer but aren’t as interested in Cozens. Looking at career to date I think there is significantly more upside with Cozens.

If Nemec is too rich an add, I would take their 2026 1st that will push to 2027 if somehow we get their first this year

lol that’s like trading Andersson for Cozens which would be one of the worst trades in Flames history.

His contract is expiring. If he gets moved for a 6th or 7th, great! If he gets thrown in to a larger deal to help balance salary, great!. If he stays with the team anf walks to free agency, also great! He's the type that it doesn't matter if we get something for him or not.

Mercer is crazy versatile as a forward though and can impact the game no matter where he plays. Powerplay, penalty kill, can play two way.. he's solid everywhere. Cozens potential may be a bit higher but Mercer is the better overall player.
Also, I think a lot of the posters (myself included) could easily see Mercer coming in and fitting like a glove with Zary. I really feel like their styles would blend very well and could give 2/3 of a very solid second line for the next decade.
