Barkov isn't a "Superstar" according to Staples. For my money he might be the best all-around player in the league. Nearly as good as Bergeron on defense, a PPG player for his career, can play literally any role, and is a leader... How exactly is he not at the "Superstar" level?

He doesn’t put up point like McDavid, McKinnon or Kucherov

But yes, he is the best all round player and a winner

According to Staples, there are only two superstars in the league, McDiver and Pissy.

This is where, and have no idea if there is or isn’t one, a stat like for goalies on goals saved above expected or whatever, seeing that differential for a player like Barkov vs Mcdavid. That span would be the really significant importance/factor.

In the warped world of the Creepy Coiler Cult, it’s all about the accumulation of personal stats and the resulting personal glory that ensues, nothing else…

This is the best arena they could have picked too.

I'm actually surprised Staples is rooting for Canada.

Hanifin has been the USAs best D, tonight.

I'd say Slavin was the best defenceman on the ice.

What ever instructions the officials got for this tournament, please for the love of the game keep it up. linesman drop pucks without the drama, and some times (most times) players falling down is just a battle lost.

Canada’s D looked very pedestrian without Makar and having Morrisey stepping into the 1D role.

With both of those guys in the top 4 the backend is solid but today everyone was playing 1 spot too high up the lineup

Hamilton would have helped a lot. Weegar probably too. Need more guys who can skate with the puck and make a stretch pass competently. Sanheim and Parayko just aren't it.

With Makar out, seems Canada could use Weegar

Cirelli over Scheifele was certainly a choice. Mackinnon and Mcdavid just have not jived together and it seems because they both are puck dominant C’s and occupy the same space on the ice. Splitting them up and putting them with complimentary guys like Wilson and Hyman (I know ew) would’ve probably worked better. Stacking them on one line with Crosby and overplaying them is a very Oileresque thing to do. Canada has too much talent for them to play with, they do not need their 3 best C’s on one line. In the past has won with roster depth and rolling 4 lines. Hockey Canada having a horrible 2 months of roster selections.

Yup. It's extremely cool in theory to have a MacKinnon-Crosby-McDavid line, but it's also an obviously suboptimal way to use those players, and makes it look like Canada is treating the games like a fan event.

I doubt they keep the same lines against Finland.

I don't think there's much of a roster reimagining you can do to make up for the fact that Canada's #1 is Binnington and USA has Hellebuyck. The #1 goalie in the NHL vs a guy who's probably not good enough for an NHL team with playoff aspirations.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

On Monday…

If Canada win in regulation they’re in.

If Canada and Sweden both win in OT, Canada is in (first tiebreaker is H2H and we beat them).

A regulation or OT loss and Canada is out.

Sweden need a regulation win and Canada/Finland to go to OT to have any chance as Canada and Finland have H2H tiebreaker over Sweden.

Finland are through if they win in regulation. Or win in OT and Sweden doesn’t win in regulation.
