Default 'New' camera help

Hey all, hope someone can shed some light on this.

I bought a relatively new Canon from someone on craigslist, and it came in good order. One problem though, the seller didn't put the cd in so I can't install the software on to my computer to upload pictures.

I'd rather find a solution for this instead of sending it back to the seller. Thanks!

What O/S are you running? Windows XP or Vista?

If so, just connect the camera via USB and turn it on, and the operating system will ask you if you want to copy the pictures to your computer.

you should also be able to go to the manufacturers website and download any content from the cd., but yeah, a card reader or usb connection to the computer is the way to go. much easier and faster.

You should be able just to plug in the camera to the computer via USB and then turn the Camera on and put it to "play" mode.

Your comptuer XP/Vista should detect as external media and will show up as a drive letter.

Else go to Canon's website and download the software from there.

Canon is picky and I believe only allow you to download updates. You need to install with the original cd first.
However, go to the website Fotze posted and download the drivers for the camera. This will ensure it connects.

However, you don't need the other Canon software to take the photo's off your camera/memory card. Simply plug in the USB cable, turn the camera on, and the camera will appear in My Computer. You can copy files the same way you do with other drives. (Applicable to only XP SP2 and Vista).

It probably depends on the model of camera. I can't download pictures from my Rebel XT without the Canon software. If you have a Rebel XT, I can hook you up with the software.

Any chance of just contacting the seller and having them send the software? It was their mistake not to send it in the first place.

I thought of that, but if I could just get it elsewhere I figured why bother. Kind of dumb though when I think about it that I was contemplating sending it back to the seller.
