The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to pay $880 million to victims of clergy sexual abuse dating back decades, in what an attorney said was the largest single child sex abuse settlement with a Catholic archdiocese, it was announced Wednesday.
|
Quote:
Attorneys for 1,353 people who allege that they suffered horrific abuse at the hands of local Catholic priests reached the settlement after months of negotiations with the archdiocese, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The agreement caps a quarter-century of litigation against the most populous archdiocese in the United States.
Attorneys in the Plaintiffs’ Liaison Committee said in a joint statement, “While there is no amount of money that can replace what was taken from these 1,353 brave individuals who have suffered in silence for decades, there is justice in accountability.”

Someone remind me why you'd attend, fund, and take your children to an organization like this?

Can there possibly be a single person left who still believes anyone involved in the church is not a liar in the least or a child rapist at worst?I already have zero respect for their propagating of superstition and lies. They're disgusting people. The pure number of these stories is astounding and those are only what have come to light.

And yet 10s of thousands of people in Calgary and probably many on this board send their children to Catholic schools and support this insane pedo factory. It's incredible. Who tf would associate themselves with this type of organization that can.not.stop.sexually.abusing children?

A 12-year-old girl in Indiana has been refused to be put on its heart transplant waiting list because of her vaccination status, her family has confirmed, as a GoFundMe has been set up in an attempt to raise funds to get the necessary operations.
Janeen Deal, who is related by marriage to Vice President JD Vance's half-siblings, stated that the hospital requires her daughter to get both the Covid-19 and flu vaccinations.
These are requirements that Janeen and her husband are unwilling to comply with. This is due to their belief that the concepts of vaccines conflict with their religious and medical beliefs, demanding a religious exemption from the hospital.

I dunno where to put this, and I know it was mentioned in the American politics thread, but I just have one question. How does a religion have a ban on vaccines being introduced into their body, but it's A-OK to replace an entire heart from a stranger? That stranger could have been gay, or Hindu. Do they understand just how ####ing stupid this makes them? But OK, let your daughter die because you are a moron. Top notch brain work there.
And no, no ####ing exemptions. You want a heart? Follow the check list, it's there for a reason you stupid muppet.

Damn, that is pretty cruel and heartless of you considering there are people who genuinely can not be vaccinated for medical reasons and you are advocating that they shouldn't be able to receive potentially life saving treatment and surgery.

Oh good, you just showed up to be stupid. Congratulations.
You understand these clinics are a run by doctors who are professionals, and make excruciatingly difficult decisions on who gets access to the limited supply of organs, right? And if that extremely unlikely situation was actually a thing that has ever happened, they would consider that in their review of the case? I can tell you this is the case because I know rules like these are not rigid. But they are also not bent for imaginary fantasy reasons. They are considered on their medical basis.
The reason why vaccination is important is because post transplant they need to stay in the hospital with many other post transplant patients as they go through rehabilitation. This is obviously an extremely vulnerable time, and all mitigatable efforts are taken to reduce the risk of death, given the limited organ supply. For the rest of the life of the patient they are on immune suppressing drugs so their body doesn't attack the organ. This means they have limited ability to fight off infections and disease, so vaccines are used to help those defences.
When decisions are made on who gets an organ, one of the considerations is chance of survival/success and it is based on interviews with patients, confirming support networks, and yes, even willingness to take medications for life, do blood work when required, and any other tests that tie you to the transplant clinic. So if a potential recipient refuses protections, their chance of survival decreases, and may also require another organ should that one fail due to prolonged hospitalization for vaccine preventable illnesses. Which means they are lower priority for an organ, because the primary goal is to extend lives. Given she needs a heart, and that covid is well known for increasing heart complications, it's even more important a factor. The logical conclusion is that the organ should go to someone who will do maximal effort to keep it healthy.
Thanks for stopping in to show everyone how smooth brained you are though, gave me an opportunity to share some facts.

You're right.
No room for any sort of reflection on the context of what he was saying.
It's clear that when he said "No exemptions" while angrily posting about someone wanting a religious exemption, in a thread about religions doing horrible things, what he meant was "No exceptions for anyone for any reason" and not "No religious exemptions...especially particularly tenuous ones".
Good catch!
No time to clarify!
Go get him!

Magic sky daddy didn't even say anything(for obvious reasons). Humans did. People. Cruel, stupid morns who prefer death and suffering of their loved ones to logic and reason.

OK, sure, no stupid exceptions based on ridiculous reasoning that make zero rational sense.
My mistake, because yes, there are exceptions to the rules based on medical circumstances, because rational decisions can be made within thee system, because that's how it is designed.

It still amuses me the mental gymnastics some people play using religion as a crux to justify they're just homophobic or don't believe in science.
Case in point, people who think pre-marital sex was interpreted wrong, and they can still do it, but in the same breath speak out against gay marriage because "that's what the bible says".
And the even funnier ones are people who somehow didn't "technically" have sex because they somehow did other acts rather than the exact definition of it. Like God is some bio nazi that is only adamant in the literal definition of penetration rather than the ideas and thoughts behind it. And the cherry on top is, apparently God is all knowing, but you can pull the wool over his eyes by skirting these on a technicality.

If you believe that the system is designed to make rational decisions then leave that in their hands and let them evaluate every case and every exception instead of proclaiming that no ####ing exceptions should be allowed.

I do leave it in their hands(what else could I do?), I'm questioning why this is even news, and how someone can rationally be against vaccines but for heart transplants. If we don't recognize that this is a complete non-starter, you give these people room to get politicians involved which, if they have enough power, can cause real damage to the system.
Keep in mind Smith tried to intervene in the medical process in Alberta for similar stupid reasons. She never did step back after being rebuked to re-establish confidence in the system, she just slithered away.
No, this stupidity needs to be shut down instantly. You want to live by the God? Die by the God. None of this wishy washy bull####. Leave the organs for rational people.

We're all guilty of it but it's almost impossible to apply logic to the thought process of a person who believes in magic and superstition. Go talk to snakes or pray yourself better, stop bothering doctors, they're busy.
I can't remember if this has been covered before but in Aug 2024 the wonderful Taliban have introduced a law in Afghanistan forbidding women from speaking in public. Yep. Even if a womon is inside her own home and a person walking on the street hears her voice, she's in trouble.
Islam, still the undefeated champion of disgusting oppression of women.
Women’s voices are also deemed to be potential instruments of vice and so will not be allowed to be heard in public under the new restrictions. Women must also not be heard singing or reading aloud, even from inside their houses.

Except that’s what the system is doing and what Fuzz is advocating, so what clumsy point are you trying to make?
