He makes the game easier for everyone he's playing with... he's got that MJ quality - when he's out there it just feels like everyone is thinking "Alright, the boss is here - follow his lead."
One of the things about McDavid, is he hasn't been around elite players like Crosby in settings like this through his career. It will be interesting if he takes away and learns from this experience. If he isn't set 8n h8s ways, he might learn how to be a better player.

Lemieux learned how to win at the 87 Canada Cup.
Hope history does not repeat for Mavi

Though Lemieux was 22 in 1987, and McDavid is 28 now.

Franchise players often peak from 22-27 or so.

Google tells me Forwards peak at 27-28 and Defenceman peak at 28-29.

Either way, McDavid is on the back 9.

For players the concern is long-term fatigue over the season and increased chance of injury.

There seems to be a lot of chatter in here for a game that no one was interested in watching.

it should be
3 on 3 for 3 minutes
2 on 2 for 3 minutes
1 on 1 for 3 minutes
1 on 1, no goalies to finish

The NHL did a lot of things right, I will give them that. This game was great and tons of credit to Sweden who was basically written off by all the pundits. People claiming this is the greatest Canada team of all time etc.

The one thing I thought was cheap and stupid and made the tournament feel less prestigious/important was the club team sticker on everyone's helmet. That was very ASG and a stark reminder that this is just an NHL event and nothing more.

Imagine players in other sports' major national competitions wearing their club team logos? So dumb.

Just keep adding pucks onto the ice.

Where did you read that?
All ive read is how bad our goaltending is.
Also our D is not as good as it was from 2002 - 2016.

Someone sounds cranky.

Is Mackinnon - Crosby - McDavid maybe the best line Team Canada has ever iced?

The powerplay unit they iced + Makar and Reinhart was the best to ever see the ice, imo.

But yes, make it 10 minutes.
Exactly, I've been saying this for years. 10 mins 3 on 3, and if it's still tied after, then you tied. We don't need to shoehorn in some false sense of closure with a breakaway challenge for regular season / round robin games. 3 on 3 for that long would settle most games anyway, I'm sure.

And yes, that OT was fantastic. I was only mildly interested in this tournament, but after that game, I'm all in.

Credit where credit is due, that game exceeded expectations by far. Maybe they learned from the last “international” event the NHL put on. Maybe it’s the added lure of proving something for the Olympics next year. But it doesn’t matter, it was just good hockey and a lot of fun to watch.
