Harper did not say that. That isn't a Harper quote. That was a comment made by a redditor who said "Canada should say something like this" on a post about Harper. Obviously well done, and someone took it and ran with it, attributing it to Stevey boy.
Funny internet sometimes.
Here is his actual quote from Toronto Star
Has the rumour started that Harper is coming back to replace PP yet? If not, we should start it.

Yep. Can't get your news from a random poster on X (who has a blue check, which means nothing nowadays) - they're just reposting popular news threads from Reddit without reading the article.
Have seen a couple new commercials lately, American companies trying to be Canadian.
Doritos had one, they put a little maple leaf inside one of their logo O's.
Twisted Tea had one celebrating Team Canada.
It looks like idea of Canada joining the EU is getting more attention. A European reporter asked Trudeau today if Canada would be be better off being a 51st U.S. state or the 28th EU member. He didn't answer, but it is interesting that something once considered not even worth talking about, is starting to get talked about in the media.
The reporters mention that the charter text says that a country must be "European", but they don't think that it would necessarily be a deal breaker because it also doesn't define what "European" means. Does it mean strictly geographically, or does it mean it in a more abstract sense of alignment, culture, and politics? Of note, Morocco applied in the past and was deemed "too African" noting that their politics were not aligned with European sensibilities (paraphrasing).
I'd still put the odds low of it ever happening, but higher than I thought if you asked me just a few months ago.

Now that's something I could be on board with. EU passport, yes please!

I wasn't sure where to put this among the current topical threads.
This is a pretty interesting discussion on France 24 regarding Canada-EU relations, but in particular, it talks a little about Canada-Britain relations and how Britain has been reluctant to stand with Canada right now, and it is implied that they are are staying to the side so that they don't offend Donald Trump. Trump said Britain may be exempt from tariffs if they behave. Apparently this isn't going unnoticed by Canada and Europe.
Honestly, what good is Britain to us anymore?

I’ve been furious about the silence from Britain. Shove your head of state up your ass if it’s 100% ceremonial even in times like these. #### all the way off.
