I hope you're right Erick but I'm not so sure, I have no doubt he'll try.
But the question is far will he get, scary times.

My honest guess is that the US will continue to use economic power to force Canada into a worse and worse situation. Basically a prolonged recession. Politically, Canada will follow the US with more right winged, regressive social policies. A continued erosion of our social programs, and especially our heath care system. They'll use economic threats to force our government to make policies that benefit the US more than Canada and generally just erode our sovereignty bit by bit.

What do you think would happen to our healthcare system if we were to become a state?

There is a lot of room for unfavorable stuff to happen short of concentration camps. Also, my wife is jewish, as are my kids, so I take some umbrage to actually fearing that. I do fear exactly that. I think there is plenty of historical basis for this. Last week, Alberta sent a delegation of minister to attend a prayer breakfast and governors meeting in DC.

I've laid this out before, but does anyone know what the barrier to statehood is? It's a vote in congress. Congress which has shown they are beholden to the President's agenda, regardless of legal norms or precedent. What if the "governor" of a "state" (herein meant nation-state not US state) petitioned congress for statehood on behalf of her "state"? If the president equally indicated support, and congress voted to accept that proposal, what would happen?

We’re at war with the U.S. Instead of lobbing missiles, dropping bombs, and sending troops, this war is being fought with monetary policy.

It’s regrettable that Biden used none of his presidential superpowers to actually save anyone from this lunacy.

Classic democrat level blunder of appearing to be in the right.

No, just doomed us all to be on some esoteric high road.

Canadians should operate based on the following assumptions.

1. Trump is not leaving office until he dies. After death, power will transfer to Vance or his kids, or whoever the Republican establishment wants at that time.
2. Democracy in the US is just about done.
3. He’s going to try and annex Canada, 100%
4. Nobody- inclusive of NATO, is coming to help us in an armed conflict or takeover
5. Our country’s survival depends on very quickly establishing the sale of our resources to global partners.

Number 5 needs to be treated with the highest urgency possible and as a matter of economic and physical security for Canada. Because number 4 above has literally no hope if you aren’t going to trade resources for protection but if you are willing to, maybe you have a small slight hope of help (but probably not and therefore that’s why it should be our base assumption).

I’d say there’s actually a higher likelihood we get annexed than not as it stands today, but I don’t think that automatically means we are moved into concentration camps or anything like that. Prob depends on how we react, if we fight them that’s prob bad news if we don’t we may be able to live under their country peacefully.

I think Canadians justifications over time for killing our industries, economic competitiveness, and reduced productivity will ultimately be what does us in. Amazingly you actually still see people on this website still caring more about emissions than Canada’s survival. I think that’s still sadly the thought process of many Canadians but it’s going to cost us everything.

An unstable US will lead to a lot of internal violence as well.

This. there will be lots of internal conflict once action is set to annex us. They'll be fighting two fronts.

I'm not saying anything you put is wrong, I just hope you are wrong (and I'm not saying you are pro Canada becoming part of the US).

They'll be too busy killing each other, which taxes their federal government resources. Perhaps disinformation campaigns to foment this could be a Canadian strategy.

"If the US were to annex Canada, what's the worst that could happen?"

Is...is that a serious question?

This is the problem, and the dude is like near death’s door anyway. What the heck would he have to lose?

Trump: "I want to literally annex Canada."

Too many people: "He doesn't actually want to annex Canada."

What the hell is happening?!

My view on it as an expat that lives in the states is "better hope not" cause if the US actually does decide to kick off WWIII and violently overtakes Canada that's gonna be curtains for everybody.

There is nothing anyone can do and nowhere on this continent you can go. If you’re truly that worried about it I say get your passport for whatever euro country you can and run now cause if it comes down to it it'll be too late.
