What should Huska do after the break?
Here are some of my thoughts:
Waive Rooney.
Keep Solo up.
Get Backlund off the PP.
keep Frost and Farabee together.
Give Wolf 2/3 starts (maybe not the 5/6 he’s been getting lately)
Get Klapka back in.
Anything else?

Lock Rooney in the press box.
Make Solo-Kuznetsov the 3rd pairing.
Limit Backs' usage until he's back to his old self.
If they can offload Vladar anywhere for a 7th or whatever I'd also do that and get the Cooley/Wolf show started early. Take some pressure off wolf to drag the team to playoffs.

Apply a bit of a system tweak. Open it up. We need offence. Have D help on rushes and more aggressive pinching.
Cut the crap with the trap or 1 man forechecker unless we’re winning.

After the break, Flames likely will have 2 players back from the IR
Fingers crossed Bahl is back, they have really missed him.
With Zary likely returning, this will also help
Agreed with Backlund, they have to reduce his ice time,
On the powerplay, Backlund should be removed,
Flames need to acquire a 4th line center, before the trade line deadline, as the 4th line is just not effective,
Flames need to figure out, who can play with Weegar,

If Zary is back, I'd like to see our C depth chart look like:
Kadri
Frost
Zary
Backlund
Don't put any of them on the wing. Have 4 lines with good players centering them. This team succeeds when they outwork the opposition, and they'll have more energy to do that if the 4th line isn't a liability.

Getting Bahl and Zary back will be huge. Solo-Kuznetsov would also be a nice bottom pairing.
The big thing for the franchise in general is not to panic and throw away assets trying to make the playoffs. They’ve had a great season all things considered, but there’s no need to rush the process. Just keep playing, patch things up internally and hope the team gets back on track.
I suspect they’ll fall just short, in part because the Canucks are more desperate for that last playoff spot and will give up assets to get it.

Agree with everything except acquisition of 4th line centre. Put Kerins there and he can alternate with Pospisil.

The team isn’t skilled enough for that. It will be the Leafs game every game

I agree with taking Backlund off the pp but don’t understand the rest of this idea that his play has suffered some dramatic drop off

I think we're seeing the effects of playing Wolf every night - he just hasn't been as crisp. The workload of being an everyday starter in the NHL is much more difficult then people realize - playing 60 games in the NHL is not the same as playing 60 games in the AHL. Not even close.
I think the playoff ship has sailed, so the team should refocus on development - bring kids up for looks, play the young guys more, and go back to managing Wolf's time. Giving Vladar some starts will only help with the tank to 23rd.

Waiving Rooney is not a huska thing. That’s up to conny.
As for coaching not sure what he can do? He can’t open up the style of play. Not enough talent. Probably stay the course and hope when everybody is healthy that he can get some chemistry going with players available.

They’re 3 points out with 27 games to go.
There was a ton of movement between teams with at least 3 points of separation around the 55 game mark last year through the end of the season.
Super premature.

Calgary simply doesn't have the skill players to play this tyle, it would be suicide.
Instead of winning/losing 3-2, we'd be losing 5-2 or 5-3.

As the intensity of the games ratchets up, they look less and less competitive.
They can hang on to the dream until the very end - that's a justifiable strategy. Or they can make an honest assessment of the team talent, be thankful for the value that their competitiveness has brought them this year, and reset with a focus on development and the future.

Backlund shouldn't be leading the forwards in TOI. It's odd, we can all see he's lost a step, he peaked years ago. Now as a 35, soon to be 36 year old, this is the year they've decided to utilize him like a superstar PPG player. It's bad for the team and the player.

Totally ignoring injuries to two key players at two key positions that directly coincides with them looking less competitive.
Fact is, especially if we’re talking about making honest assessments, the Flames today are all above development and the future. That’s been front and center, and that’s a big reason why that competitiveness exists and why they are where they are.
Wolf isn’t playing every game and Coronato isn’t getting bumped to the first line because the Flames are desperate for a win above all else, it’s because those players earned it and testing them in bigger roles is part of good development.
I don’t think there’s any honour in throwing in the towel and just going through the motions for two months while you cycle young players in for a taste regardless of what the player or the team needs.

And while the Canucks may get that spot, they won't go far and all these poor moves are slowly turning them into the next flames, trapped in mediocreville.

Huska can keep coaching after the break. Maybe Conroy can tie the coaches hand a bit by making certain players permanently unavailable for Huska to use at his disposal
