I bet he might have thought about it if they nailed the homestand. But I think it probably killed those thoughts for good.

Hard to appreciate solid stay at home guys until they are replaced by Barrie or Miromanov.

I don't think so. It sounds like he's sticking to his plan of targeting players who are going to be around for a while. He did say Wolf might expedite his plans a couple years though where 5 years turns into 3.

Ya Conroy has a fairly transparent plan that he has not deviated from and I don’t think anyone should be worried he will deviate from
1) do not let assets walk for free. He sets a price for UFAs that he wants to sign and if he cannot sign then he trades them. When he trades them he always trades them for younger assets or picks.
2) move players who are under contract but have other players in the system ready to take their spot. He did this with Markstrom and Mangiapane. When he moves those players he picks up younger players or picks.
3) try to weaponize his cap space to get younger assets. Everyone assumed he was doing this with Mantha until he got hurt and he has said he will take on cap hit as a third party for a draft pick.
Conroy has never made a trade that seemed to indicate that he is not focused on getting younger and accumulating draft picks. I doubt that strategy changes anytime soon. I personally expect he will trade Coleman sometime during his contract due to point 2 above where one or more of the wingers in the system make Coleman redundant. Doubt it happens until the final year of his contract though.

If Wolf is the goalie might as well not waste his window.

That's a bit of a revisionist history. Carolina assembled their core in their last rebuild. From 2010-2018 Carolina picked 2nd, 5th x 2, 7th x 2, 12th x 2, 13th. They missed the playoffs from 2009-2019!
In that time they drafted: Svechnikov(2), E. Lindholm(5), Hanifin(5), J. Skinner(7), Necas(12), Aho(35), Pesce(66), Slavin(120), F. Andersson(187). They also got a bunch of depth players.
Carolina really improved its drafting, and ability to identify players with star potential, but they're still built on their previous rebuild. Having Aho, and Slavin as the core leaders.

The way he’s played the last couple weeks, if there was a different name of the back of his jersey Backlund would be sitting in the press box.

They finished bottom 5 twice during those years (5th worst one year and tied with the Flames for 5th worst the other year). They never tanked, they were a team that did not make the playoffs for an extended period.
I don’t think that Conroy ever thought that the Flames would turn it around in year 3. But I also don’t think the Flames ever wanted to be a team that was consistently awful and bottom 3 in the league for years on end.

I also think that tanking isn't always the same every year. Sometimes the top players are Hall, RNH, Lafreniere, the 2012 draft with no real superstar, etc. - good players, but not franchise-level (though to be fair, the book isn't written yet on Laf).
There is no guarantee that when you tank, you get the #1 pick anyway. McKenna and Dupont in the next two consecutive drafts is a good gamble for a team to just kick out a peg or two when they are that low. Will - or should - Calgary do it? That's up for debate and rationalization, but if there was ever a time to go that route, it is when there is a seemingly clear franchise-changing superstar to be taken.
Just because you tank doesn't mean you have to end up like Buffalo. That's just a poorly run organization. What makes it impossible to end up like Colorado? Or Chicago? Or Pittsburgh? Or Tampa? Or Florida? You can name just as many success stories as you can name failures, and the big difference is that well-run organizations build good teams, and poorly run organizations build bad teams.

He a Coleman have fallen off the map in the last few weeks. When Zary is back I hope Huska sits the players who should be sitting.

That would be Rooney then. There is no world where Backlund or Coleman are not in the Flames top 12 forwards. You ain’t going to be sitting Backlund to play Rooney.

I’d put
Backlund
Coleman
Sharangovich
As guys who should be bumped down with the addition of Farabee, Frost and the return of Zary.

Coleman cannot be happy on that line. Backlund shows no speed, no willingness to get to a puck first, go into a dirty area, or take hit. Coleman does all those things game in and out.
Does Backs even need to shower after games these days?
Edit: I don’t think it’s age. Maybe he’s nursing an injury? Love the guy but his play has really fallen badly.

I think he was referring to the Philly trade.
I don't know, both those players have been good for us. But the team is so terrible besides Wolf that we should be tanking. How this isn't a bottom 5 team in the standings is crazy. Wolf just stands on his head every night.
We are really in a bad situation and will miss the playoffs. Team has no goal scoring talent at all and no first line forwards. But Wolf is too good to let us tank.
We are stuck in the mud lol.

If the team was actually that bad they would be at Anaheim levels. Anaheim has Gibson who has a higher save percentage than Wolf and Dostal who is pretty close. The problem with Anaheim is they have absolutely no elite forwards. Their forwards are awful compared with the Flames. Guys like MacTavish, Zegras and Carlson just won’t get it done.
Same with Seattle notwithstanding last night. Daccord has a better save percentage than Wolf. But guys like Beniers and Wright just don’t get it done.
