Little extreme I think. No team has had less than 20 wins in a full season in decades.
You’re right that the flames end up worse overall in the short term in this trade. It’s a trade for futures mostly. If the flames go the route of trading Kadri and/or Andersson in the offseason, I would like to target A-level centre prospects (which most scouts consider Ritchie to be) or young NHL centres with high potential upside (Cozens for example)… but teams rarely trade either of those. When they do, it usually costs a lot. If next season ended up being a tough year with young players taking over prominent roles on the team from vets (Frost, Zary, Coronato, Ritchie and Parekh could all be on the team in this scenario), at least it’s in a year with a a deep draft that includes a potential franchise center at the top (McKenna).
It’s unlikely a trade like this happens anyways. I doubt Kadri or Andersson end up getting traded.

Many people in national media have to pretend to cover a lot more teams than they actually have time to watch. A guy like Bahl doesn't have a lot of highlight-reel plays, so he flies under the radar.

Like Pelts and Kuzy, the next trade will take us by surprise.
These obvious ones are red herrings.
I bet it involves someone Conroy was interested in last year, that he kept chipping away at just like the Frost trade.

I don't know what purpose acquiring Casey Mittelstadt serves. The Flames don't need every disappointing castoff in the league. Colorado has been looking for that 2nd line center for two years, picked him up, and now are trying to trade him again.

Also, Holtz was a top 10 pick from 2020 and Bahl a late 2nd rounder in 2018. A bit of bias towards pedigree and recency.
Plus, even if it is unfair, forwards that can (or at least should) score have a lot more fan appeal than stay-at-home defensemen.

I was okay with Holtz but I was hot for Mercer. RHS C.... That's how long the Flames have been after one. Since summer.
Bahl has been far more than advertised IMO and it shows since he's been out of the lineup.

Me too, Mercer would’ve been the ultimate.
Bahl is pretty damn good tho.

I’ve been thinking this too. Either that, or Conny surprises again and gets one of the names we’ve been talking about for pocket lint- much like he did with Frost and Farabee, lol.
Cozens for Rooney, Kerins, and a 7th in 2031.

I used to be the biggest Peyton Krebs hater around, but the more I see of him, the more I like him. I can't see him coming here, as he's still a gamble for top-6 duty, but I really think he could pop on another team besides the Sabres.
He's a pure playmaker, and has never really scored goals in his career, so playing bottom-6 minutes on a team like Buffalo is not going to be good for his numbers. I also like the fact that he's a bit of s##t disturber, and kinda mean and fiery.

Whoever we trade for I’m hoping for someone that acts like a professional and cares. Tries. So probably people who haven’t made some massive paycheque.

To Colorado:
Kadri
Andersson (50% retained)
To Calgary:
Middlestat
Ritchie
1st round pick
Colorado retools on the fly in their competitive window - bolstering their top 6 forwards and their defence in one move. Calgary gets a top centre prospect and another an NHL centre on a reasonable contract while also getting younger.

That is a really bad trade for Calgary.

Everybody. Buffalo isn't looking for futures. Calgary isn't looking to give up futures.

Honestly, Buffalo has just realized they have to “rebuild” again, and 4 first round picks in the next two years,
And we solidify our lineup up and down for the next 5 years and jumpstart what we are trying to do right now
The overpay was to make it happen,
