Soo, turns out he really was planning to go the fascist/totalitarian route.
Dems weren't just fear mongering in their campaign.
Is this better or worse than the mythical deep state? Cause from where I'm standing, it looks like it's going to be immeasurably worse.
Well done, clueless Trump voters. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Your leader is literally trying to undo at least half a century of progress in the snap of a finger, and because no one took the warning signs seriously he may actually succeed in doing so.

That country is already unrecognizable from the one we knew before Trump went down that escalator in 2015. And because Republicans are spineless turds, they're just gonna let it continue to descend into complete chaos. All because voters couldn't bring themselves to vote for a woman. Bravo America, you f'n morons.

Federal health workers are expressing fear and alarm after a website called “DEI Watch List” published the photos, names and public information of a number of workers across health agencies, describing them at one point as “targets.”##

Trump is a truly remarkable man - just not in the way he perceives. He's going to single-handedly get the Canadian Liberal party re-elected.

Dunno about that, but he might have cost the CPC their majority.

Let's not put that all on Trump. That's letting PP off easy.

That seems the most probable outcome... I always assumed that there would be a tightening during the next campaign regardless of other circumstances but there have been other circumstances (and thus far none of them to the benefit of the CPC). Now they built up a gigantic lead so those other circumstances have basically turned it from what would have been a lay-up to likely an actual contest.

PP might be the worst politician in the history of this country. The Conservatives had a majority all but wrapped up simply due to Justin's unpopularity, and he is going to piss it all away. His entire mantra was simply anti-Justin.
Many Canadians view PP as a Trump boot licker, while Carney is making some real concise policy declarations. I would not be shocked to see Liberals win again, and in fact I am almost certain I will vote for them.

I would be shocked. Very. However, I could be convinced to vote for them, if it's a Carney LPC and he can convince me that it's not just the Trudeau regime LPC with a new guy at the top.
Regardless, one of the things that would help in that regard is if they could sort out the leadership question quickly. Getting the election out of the way sooner than later might be better for the LPC's chances in the wake of this anti-Trump sentiment anyway.

I'm not sure if I've ever heard something so inappropriate uttered by a world leader.

There's a path for the LPC that includes tying Poilievre to Trump, but they need to be careful not to just label CPC supporters as deplorables. I'm not sure the LPC can resist doing that, though, based on past performance.

Trump is doing a coup exactly the right way.
He didn't declare it, and he didn't look for a judicial approval for anything. He's moving fast on all fronts, too fast for an unorganized opposition to realize what's happening and do something.
He's already acting as if the coup has already happened. Him and his administration are already doing obviously illegal things, and even going directly against the constitution. (The president can not give orders that are in conflict with what congress has decided, so he can't just for example shut down the funding for anything that has congress approval.)
He could of course ask the congress to rubber stamp his decisions, but that would be a bad move, as it would imply the congress has power over his decisions.
The plan (certainly not his plan, but the plan of his administration) seems to be mostly working. People in government are already acting as if Trump has the power to do what he wants, and that belief is what makes power real.
Basically the plan I laid out in this thread at one point. Replace the government administration with loyalists who will do what they are told, and then all he needs from congress is to not get in the way. He doesn't even need a majority of the congress behind him, he just needs enough support to keep congress from actively getting in his way.
The way he's going after army and intelligence leadership is what makes it really, really obvious that he's doing a coup, because those are the other main organizations that could get in his way.
What ever happens, I think we can say goodbye to democracy as we knew it. Doesn't mean a different democracy won't come out of this crisis, but classical liberalism will not survive this challenge.
