If Buffalo wants value equivalent to a 21 year old right-shot center that scored 30 goals and almost 70 points, I wouldn't pay it. To be considered that kind of player, I think you need to do it more than once.

Flames: Cozens
Buffalo: Pospisil + Zegras
Anaheim: 2025 1st + B prospect from the sabres

Maybe something like this as a starting point?

I can't see Calgary moving a roster forward for Cozens. Only thing that makes sense to me is them trading Kadri in the summer and flipping whatever pieces they get back for him.

Now his 24-25 season is trending even worse...

The lack of big RH centers around the league will prop his value up for sure. But I still think the value he's probably being offered by most teams is some like 1st round pick + prospect. If teams were offering drastically more than that he'd be moved already I think.

I'd be shocked if Andersson + Pospisil + pick isn't the best deal they've been offered by far...but Andersson just didn't want to waive.

What other teams are probably looking for a center like Cozens...Nashville, Montreal, Utah, Chicago, Boston, Minnesota, Detroit, Calgary.

So there is a market but I bet it's largely based on futures with any of those teams.
I don't disagree, but Frost was traded for peanuts. Cozens isn't quite there yet. I'd still consider Frost and Cozens as two different classes of assets. Give Cozens two more years with .5 PPG play and they'd be at the same level.

I agree that Andersson + Pospisil + pick is a great package for Cozens. If that pick is more than a 3rd, it starts to look like an overpayment pretty quickly.

Thats fair, only reason I think Pospisil could be included is because of Buffs supposed interest in him previously. Bringing in Farabee makes Pospisil slightly more expendable (even though Posp is a way bigger pest). But if he's going to be used on the fourth line then getting a core piece goes a lot further

Maybe I'm a sentimental old fool, but I think I'd rather just keep Kadri. I love his commitment to the team and city.

Is there a bad contract in Buffalo that they could add to REDUCE the cost?

I don't think that makes you a fool at all. I like him too. But he's going to be 35 at the start of next season and his contract still has four years left. I think this summer will be the time to cash in.

I wonder what a guy like Mattias Samuelsson would cost. 24 year old shutdown LD signed longterm for not that much imo

It starts to look like an overpayment as soon as a + is tacked on to Andersson...

Fair enough. Depends a little on Andersson's intentions. If he doesn't agree to an extension with Buffalo, the value for Buffalo decreases a lot.

Andersson just has no reason to waive for Buffalo. Not the money, not the playing time, not the city, not their current situation ... if he has them on his 6 team list, then there's a reason for that. I'd imagine a lot of players with modified NTCs will have Buffalo on their list.

Buffalo is a mess and Cozens is playing like a guy who wants to get out. Well before Christmas there was talk in Lethbridge that Cozens was about to be dealt to either Vancouver or Calgary. I don't know if this came from Orange Julius but where there is smoke there is fire and Cozens name has been in trade rumors for a long time.

Cozens has all the makings of a draft day trade to me. I just can't see it happening during the season. Buffalo is going to try to pivot hard in the next few months -- I can see them being a big player for Pettersson if VAN decides to move on from him -- and CGY might be more inclined to move picks once they have a better idea of how the conditions will shake out.

I agree with Buff ... feels like Cozens is destined for Western Canada. Reminds me of when Hamonic was available. Hopefully this guy is better.

I wonder if they were close and then ownership put the brakes on that trade. Sometime in December he joined the team in Montreal and told them that they all have to play better because nobody is getting traded... Easy to suggest that the owner (and probably GM too) didn't like the offers they were getting and told the players they have to play well if they want out.

The issue is Buffalo wants a hockey trade and any player with a NTC likely has them on it. So they are left with young guys like Zegras who have their own issues and aren’t a clear upgrade on Cozens.

I think Conroy is showing that he is pretty methodical and patient. Him getting a sense of what Andersson wants I don't think is a tell that a trade is almost complete. So I don't think the Owner would have anything to do with it. I think it is just his MO.

He was talking about Pegula. He met the team and gave the classic the answer is in the room spiel.
