Adm. Cain's Secrets From The Grave
SPOILERS: Some details from 'Battlestar Galactica' telemovie revealed

By MICHAEL HINMAN
Source: SyFy Portal
Jun-18-2007

The following story contains MODERATE SPOILERS for the upcoming "Battlestar Galactica" telemovie "Razor."
Every bad situation has a silver lining if one looks hard enough, and even though some great characters introduced in the second mid-season finale of "Battlestar Galactica" would find early graves, the art of flashback will bring the Battlestar Pegasus back to life again in SciFi Channel's November telemovie on the series.

Keeping anything a secret on the set of "Battlestar Galactica" has been impossible, and "Razor" has been no exception with it almost common knowledge that the telemovie will focus on the Cylon attacks from the Pegasus perspective, along with recreations of some of the events that took place on the embattled ship only talked about before.

"Razor," however, won't just be a typical flashback episode, sources tell SyFy Portal. It will bring together fans of both the original 1970s series and the 2003 remake like no episode has before, and it will feature revelations that will make jaws drop and instill fear on what might come in Season 4.

Michelle Forbes -- introduced to genre fans as the Bajoran Ensign Ro in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" -- will reprise her role as the iron-balled admiral in the telemovie, proving to viewers that her sunny disposition wasn't exactly the result of the Cylons annihilating nearly all of the human race. Cain is fighting some demons of her own, one of the biggest ones stretching back to the original Cylon War 40 years before where she watched her parents executed by the 1970s versions of the living machines, and being forced to make the impossible decision of leaving her little sister behind in an effort to save herself.

But the biggest skeleton in Cain's closet will finally come out, so to speak. Remember the disgust Cain had for Gina (Tricia Helfer), the Number Six Cylon prisoner she was holding on Pegasus by the time the military vessel met up with the Galactica? Well, things weren't always that bad between the two ladies. In fact, before her exposure as a Cylon, things were much, much, much, much different.

"Cain and Gina were quite close," a source tells SyFy Portal. "In fact, they were lovers. We don't exactly come out and say it, but you'd have to be sleeping through the middle of all this to not pick up on their relationship."

Some viewers who had been pushing for some sort of homosexual representation on "Battlestar Galactica" should finally get their wishes answered with this revelation, especially since many viewers speculated that Cain might be a lesbian previously. And it won't exactly be the first time "Battlestar Galactica" has delved into same-sex relationships, as it was implied that the love triangle between Six, Baltar (James Callis) and Number Three (Lucy Lawless) also involved love between Six and Three as well.

"We've gone out of our way to make sure that it wasn't thrown in there just to throw it in there," the source said. "The love between the two sets up a [dramatic] device of betrayal, and what scorned love can create in the heat of the moment. Finding out your lover is really the enemy might not be new, but this should be a fresh perspective."

As previously reported on SyFy Portal, rumors were out that the original Cylon models from the 1970s ABC series would make a cameo appearance in the telemovie, but another source says that's just not true. The inclusion of the original models is full on, and they will likely get more screen time than the new versions first introduced in the 2003 miniseries.

"They are going to have the same voice, the same sparkle, the same type of ships, everything," the source said. "You're going to see them in the beginning where we feature scenes from the height of the original Cylon War, but members of our ragtag fleet will have the opportunity for a face-to-face or two with them as well."

Unlike the Cylons from the original series, these units will be created using computer imagery much like the mechanical units shown in the new series. But it's unlikely that little else will be different about the Cylons, which should give fans a much-needed dose of nostalgia as "Battlestar Galactica" gears up for its fourth and final season in 2008.

The telemovie will air in November on SciFi Channel, and be released on DVD soon after. Depending on how successful this direct-to-DVD project is, NBC Universal could find a future in "Battlestar Galactica" in this medium in the future.

Please note that these source reports have not been confirmed by NBC Universal or the powers that be behind "Battlestar Galactica," and should be treated as any rumors would.

Yeah, I read it before I could tear my eyes away, there are no big surprises in the movie, but it sounds like a high cool factor.

A tour of the Battlestar set by Scyfy Portal, which has been very credible in the past for scoops, yields some interesting information . . . . . I'd have to say the end of this story does contain a spoiler about the Cylons that the more sensitive among you might not want to know . . . . but very intriguing development, even if its speculation.

I have just started watching BSG and I started with what was tagged as SE01E01 called 33. IMDB shows it as the first episode but I am confused as to why they have not introduced the story line or the characters. Did I miss something.

I havent read any posts in this thread because I don't want any spoilers so sorry if this has been answered.

There was a 4 hour mini series that launched the story.

Hmm... well that would make sense. Since I am halfway through season 1, should I watch it. I am terrible confused as to why the doc "sees" that cylon. Am I missing anything else?

you are missing a lot, including the doctor/cylon relationship. i'd advise to quit watching right now and get the miniseries before you get even more confused

Region 2 DVD's annouced for Sept. (it's listed on Amazon). But Region 2 is the UK.

I've heard nothing yet for Region 1 (North America). Has anyone else heard anything?

I need to see that season 3 finale again soon...

Centurions Get Restless On 'Battlestar Galactica'
SPOILERS: Plus, more fleet ships will get explored in fourth season

By MICHAEL HINMAN
Source: SyFy Portal
Jul-03-2007

Quote:
The following story contains possible MODERATE SPOILERS for the upcoming fourth season of "Battlestar Galactica."
There are dozens of ships that make up the ragtag fleet running from the Cylons in "Battlestar Galactica," and over the course of three seasons, only a small handful of those ships have even been visited.

The SciFi Channel series may be wrapping up its run in the fourth season, but that doesn't mean producers are ready to give up exploring other vessels, with the Galactica crew poised to step aboard a very cramped ship called the Demetrius by about the fifth or sixth episode of the season.

"Battlestar Galactica" production designer Richard Houdolin and art director Doug Maclean took online journalists on a tour of the Vancouver, B.C. sets used for the series last week as part of the SciFi Channel Digital Press Tour, which SyFy Portal was a part of. The tour included a small detour to a soundstage where the mess hall of a submarine-like ship was being constructed for use this week, but neither Houdolin or Maclean would go into detail with reporters on what exactly they were seeing or what the ship would be used for.

Some very observant members of the tour, however, noticed a blueprint laying nearby the construction project that identified the ship as the Demetrius.

The Demetrius, according to Battlestar Wiki, was mentioned in the second season episode "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 2" in a list of ships providing vote tallies for the election between Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Gaius Baltar (James Callis). While the existing sets at the time of the tour were not clear on the function of the ship, Battlestar Wiki speculates that the name of the ship could be a reference to Demeter, the Greek goddess of grain and agriculture as well as the preserver of marriage and the sacred law. It is possible that the ship could be an agricultural one, but little information about the particular set outside of the visit was available.

Another stop on the tour for those of us attending was the standing sets used for the Cylon baseships, including the multi-purpose set that has been the backdrop of various rooms featured on the enemy vessels.

When the tour group went through a week ago, the multi-purpose set was designed as a fancy dining area complete with silver on the table and white chairs. The set, however, was practically in pieces, as it looked like there was a significant gun battle, with support pillars nearly destroyed and bullet holes everywhere.

Kenn Gold, a writer for Media Blvd., said whispers he heard on set were that the Centurion models will rebel early in Season 4 against the humanoid models after discovering their ability to maintain intelligent thought has been suppressed. Some of the Centurions, apparently, will have this inhibitor removed, and will confront the humanoid models during a dinner scene.

"From the debris scattered about, the numerous bullet holes in the walls, and the shattered glass of the conference room, it would appear that the Centurions are not very happy about being enslaved by these human Cylon masters, much as their ancestors were enslaved by the humans which lead to the first Cylon war," Gold said.

Thanks for the advice about the mini series. Finished it this weekend.

I got season 2 and 3 last night so I can just keep rolling through them while trying not to read the spoilers.

Interesting article about BSG actors having their work recognized by other actors.
Quote:
But it's not just other TV stars that watch "Battlestar." Douglas recalls an incident that took place, he says, on Jan. 10, 2007, when he passed Robin Williams on the street in Beverly Hills. Williams turned around, followed Douglas, and waylaid him on the curb to talk about the show.

"He goes, 'That's the best show on TV,'" Douglas says. "'I cannot believe it. I never miss it. You tell Eddie [star Edward James Olmos], I've known Eddie for years, you go up, and you tell everybody that's my favorite show -- the best show on TV. What are you shooting? Why are you here? Why are you not shooting? Is the Chief dead?'

After acting as co-host of the Asian Excellence Awards with "Lost" star Daniel Dae Kim, Park encountered director, and big "Battlestar" fan, Quentin Tarantino.

"In the after-party," she says, "he wouldn't stop gabbing about it. I felt like I had to baby-sit him, he was so excited. He just went on for about 10 minutes. I got so uncomfortable, I had to leave."

^ That's exactly how I'd picture Tarantino talking about a show he likes -- until the other party gets uncomfortable.

Maybe they could talk him into guest directing an episode like he did for CSI. That would be pretty cool actually.

anyone else get the feeling that even though this will be the last season, we won't be seeing the last of the BSG universe? the amount of attention this show is getting is phenomenal and i could easily see them trying to turn it into the next Star Trek

wow, i knew they were making a movie based on the Caprica survivors but i didn't know they already had another tv series planned. so it looks like this will be the next major sci-fi universe, and all because of some extremely cheesy 1970's Star Wars ripoff
