Bought some Mexico coke today for fun. Turns out I already pretty much only purchased Canadian products, shopping today was easy.

that is a 3% change?
thats not insignificant. It only started bouncing back on news tariffs would be put on hold.

So are the tariffs on China still a go?

If we take for an instant that the US isn’t stupid and look at project 2025 it discusses challenges with Tarriffs because of a rule of having to treat all nations the same.
So is this entire Tarriff mess really about putting Tarriffs on China in a legally defensable manner while extracting concessions on immigration.
The end result after today is
Increased boarder protection in Canada
10,000 troops in Mexico along the boarder
A 10% Tarriff on China.
That sounds like a win for Trump and project 2025.

Those are intraday numbers and the variance isn't all that special. The tariff imposition was already priced in when Trump started crowing about it in November. When the Mexican news came out it was unexpected and led to loss mitigation. Nothing really newsworthy about the whole thing.

Also notice how USD/CAD was pretty much flat D/D just prior to Trudeau's tweet. 1.4524 to 1.4571. A few basis points. It's nothing that people weren't expecting.

Mexican Coke is made with cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Which used to be the case for all Coke.
HFCS is only used here because the corn industry successfully lobbies the government to have it subsidized to make it artificially cheaper than sugar. Another scam.

Who is going to enforce this 'rule'? The WTO ruled against the initial China tariffs. Nothing changed.

Mexican Coke was simply "Coke" until the corn lobby got into the farm bill and is passed year after year by Congress.

Was listening to the radio for this announcement and heard it is a "sentinel czar". Thought it was some kind of new autonomous drone or sentinel robots like that X-Men movie.
Would've been way cooler. Dammit missed opportunity.
