Exactly. Trump just wanted to look like a tough guy in front of the media and his supporters. We were already throwing money at the border thing. All we did was give him a phoney win to stroke his ego.

I loathe Trudeau but he handled this as well as could be and deserves some props. The only reason this point was reached was from the collective backlash shown to him.

What do you propose should have been done? Say no at this point and watch the dollar, economy and jobs go down the toilet? Trump wasn't going to just toss the tariffs in the trash at the 11th hour. Even a few weeks of those would be devastating.

Accepting the circumstances and agreeing to those terms are one of the few things I think Trudeau did right by Canadians. Well done Trudeau.

The damage is done - I’m not buying American products and have already cancelled several subscriptions.

As for critical infrastructure projects, it is still critical to the security of Canada, that the pipelines are built so there is future resilience to the whims of what is now a hostile nation.

Exactly. Hopefully this has been the kick in the pants that Canadians have needed to come to the realization of what we have put ourselves in.

Hopefully this is a reminder moving forward that we need pipelines like energy east, TMX and other markets for business to ensure we have our own access that is not fully dependent on the U.S.

Yeah, I had a lot to get done in a very short timeframe and with things changing the whole time.

I laughed at "accepting the circumstances" because this is the same stuff they already announced with the addition of the fentanyl czar. Also, I'd like to be the fentanyl czar and that's a great title!

Suit yourself. I'm not a huge fan of the way China conducts itself but the reality is they can supply products I want at a cost I want, so I buy them. If you don't want to take advantage of trade you're only hurting yourself.

With respect to your point on infrastructure, though, I totally agree.

Excellent, this month will give us time to move away from exporting to the US where tariffs won't matter anymore. Short term pain for long term success. We can never trust Americans again.

And WTF is a Fentanyl Czar. Probably sounded good to Trump.

n addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.

Show me where this had already been laid out please.
If we already agreed to it, all the better. Not having tariffs TODAY and giving us time to negotiate is a win. Not a loss.

So funny, I applaud the PM for the first time in history and get rebuffed with "Nah uh" haha.

Canada needs to find better friends. USA lead by Trump isn’t a reliable or trustworthy partner.

It doesn't matter because it wouldn't happen, but Canada is not governable as a single entity in that fashion. 10 Provinces larger don't become 1 state, even if this were a conversations that's not the way the math works.

Agreed. It'll be interesting to see how short Canadian memories are come election time and when it comes time to actually implement some business friendly and sovereignty friendly policies (armed forces, pipelines, arctic, carbon tax reduction, income tax reduction, reduction of red tape like C-48 and C-69, etc.).

We can and should continue to work closely with the US, but we need to act like a real country again too. This is a serious reality check.
