Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations

Quote:
“The statesman who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ their capitals would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an authority which could safely be trusted, not only to no single person, but to no council or senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it.”

I've found that I shop at Safeways by my place, the produce quality is ok, Its pretty bad at the walmart, Coop is good but expensive.
I buy the lettuce at Coop. They have single and double clamshell options. If I remember correctly a single is $5 and a double is $7 or $8.

It is this company and apparently you can buy direct from them:

I'd love to see some American companies just say screw it, we're not importing anything that's affected by the tariffs for the time being because of government uncertainty. If the Trump is going to keep escalating tariffs because of retaliatory tariffs, how are they supposed manage prices if their costs keep escalating? Wal-Mart should stop importing just anything they sell, car manufacturers cancel purchase orders for parts, Apple stops production of their devices in China.

Every single American business lobby group, especially ones that supported Trump, are releasing statements against the tariff decision today.

Maybe, but that kind of stuff usually only works if you're popular or if the populace is extremely disengaged politically. I don't think either of those things are going to be true for Trump and the US in the next few years.

He’s never dying and he’s never leaving office. That’s how we should be operating. Diversify our allies and most importantly let’s utilize our own wealth on our own soil… we should be drowning in resource money.

BC premier Eby should immediately extend his speculation and vacancy tax to Whistler and hammer the American owners. Whistler has been exempt from Day One so as not to offend the wealthy Americans while BC had no problem taxing Albertans who own cabins in the Okanagan.

Did it have anything to do with tariffs?

If only we had some kind of program that focused on energy on a national level.

If you mean one crafted by the current Liberal/Socialist coalition it would mean wind and solar energy only. Ok with that?

Imagine Trudeau Sr got the NEP going way back when. We'd have that energy corridor today.

But Alberta decided to stick with US oil companies. Today it bit us in the ass.

If only we could monetize Albertans’ ‘woe is me’ we’d have a wealth fund that would dwarf the PIF.

Yup we’re in for a whole lot of needless pain

Wall Street Journal lead editorial calls out Trump for starting the dumbest trade war in history.

I’m not sure if what you’re saying is true but we would also have one company and like 500,000 less jobs. Kinda like every other industry in the country and part of the reason our country is so ####ed.

The other path is just to not be obstructionist to private investment particularly if it’s geopolitically advantageous for your nation.

I’m going to put my rich guy hat on and say I hope that Mexico and Canada issue equal, retaliatory tariffs and stick to them for an extended period.

I apologize to all the people it will cost money and the businesses it will hurt.

But it’s the only way for tariffs to be seen for what they are
