25% on certain specific goods totaling $155 billion. That number seems kinda low given the overall volume of cross-border trade.

I'd like to know more about what he said about restrictions on critical minerals. That could be really interesting.

Haha Alberta can't wait to cut their own deal and sell out the rest of the country.

I’m happy to see Smiths alignment with the response she is toeing the line behind Trudeau now that a response was required.

Quote:
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who has been reluctant to support aggressive trade action against the U.S. until now, said in a statement that Trump's "mutually destructive policy" demands a response.

She said she wants to see "the strategic use of Canadian import tariffs on U.S. goods that are more easily purchased from Canada and non-U.S. suppliers."

Yup, good job by him so far. I liked that he started with the strong decades-long relationship that we've had with the U.S. Seemed to be speaking directly to everyday Americans there.

Someone needs to explain to me why the above is actually a bad idea.

No because Trudeau/Canada is the first Country to respond, thus sets the agenda for Mexico, the EU maybe China as well, every country will hopefully follow suite and the pain for the US voter will be very fast and sharp, a 20% rise in inflation in Ohio will end this and Trump right quick

This may not work but it is exactly the right response

So we shopping from temu and alibaba now?

It's ok, I'll wait the two month shipping for basic goods. We're in this together..

I'll definitely be looking for domestic labels.

Just tariffed countries demonstrating to Trump why he's a moron and making his stunt as short lived as possible.

Guy needs a lesson on why, contrary to idiotic beliefs, the US actually needs its greatest trading partners.

I thought it was a nice speech by Trudeau, but I don’t agree with the policy response. Y’all should be happy though.
