I hope Hughes stays. He’s done a great job overseeing this.

I hope Hughes leaves.

We can sign Hughes and Makar to 1 year deal in 2 years and they can battle to be the best on the same team.

They've made a right mess of this. Can't believe Rutherford thought his public commentary about the situation would be helpful. Now it seems all their best players are wondering what the hell the direction is.

I'm betting Quinn would be fine going to NJD to hang out with his brothers.

Tread carefully Vancouver.

Not sure how their cap space aligns with Quinn hitting free agency but the prospect of all three brothers on the same team has to be pretty exciting for the family. I have to think playing in the Vancouver market has to be pretty exhausting and I can't fault any player for wanting to go to a destination where there's less noise.

Plus they are American, plus they are from the East (Florida).

This does put Vancouver into a decent postion to jump into a quick rebuild. They can trade Pettersson, Miller, Demko, Hughes and Boeser for a decent haul of picks and prospects... if they do it right.

It doesn't help that the rest of the league knows they need to move on from Miller and/or Pettersson and that also puts forth a domino effect of trading the rest.

Does Hughes have a no trade clause?
If so, I can see him going to NJ, by trade or UFA. If not, Vancouver will likely have to trade him before he becomes a UFA.

They’d just have to move out Dougie

It can't be just Miller vs Pettersson. It is fine for two guys not to like each other, but I would guess it is a clique led by Miller vs a clique led by Pettersson, with some guys in the middle. I believe if it was just Miller being an ass, the rest of the team would have put him in his place by now, or he would have simply been traded away. I think by this time, it is a divided locker room, rather than simply two players hating one another.

Maybe that Miller trade from Tampa was what wrecked the rebuild? Maybe had they never brought in Miller, they would have retained Horvat, maybe got another piece or two from drafting higher in the standings, and been a well-oiled machine by now? Miller reportedly pushing out Horvat, and now doing the same with Pettersson. Wasn't Horvat widely seen as a really mature 'future captain'? I remember in his draft year, it wasn't just his skill, but his maturity and leadership that were highly touted.

Canucks have turned into a mismanaged mess. If they don't turn this ship around soon, Hughes will be joining his brothers in New Jersey. I mean, maybe he will regardless, but this drama and lack of winning (with a potential rebuild if it doesn't get fixed) should drive him there.

That's going to be a hell of a package for Hughes next off-season as the Canucks continue imploding.

Hughes has a ton of value. Boeser would be a good rental for someone trying to go for it.

Miller 3.5x$8? Maybe a bit of value but the NMC and baggage diminishes it.

Pettersson and Demko I wouldn't take for free.

Yeah, it should, except Rutherford put all the cards out on the table yesterday through the media and got as specific as saying they may not even get a 2nd line center back in a trade for Pettersson/Miller. That's now going to be the bar for the other GMs. Not a good comment to share publicly.

My buddies in Vancouver told me that Sat Shah (one of the Vancouver SN guys) was asked by Kypreos yesterday what exactly happened to cause this rift and in his response, Shah said that Pettersson was challenged by players to "do more", so that's his guess for how this all started, and aligns to you thinking this is not just Miller vs Pettersson, mano a mano.

I suspect when Rutherford said that, he knew perfectly well that he wasn't getting a 2nd-line centre back in a trade, and was trying to soften the blow for the fans. The cards were already on the table for the other GMs to see. There are no hole cards in hockey.

These could be two of the worst trades I have ever seen. To see them happen back to back is mind boggling.
