Surprised that this was all it took. I wonder what finally pushed this over the line for the Canucks.

Seems like a backwards step before you move forward, but sometimes that is what it takes. I am doubtful that this solves anything today as I am sure it was more than just Miller vs Pettersson, as it sounded more like there were factions behind each player. I guess we will see how Vancouver responds. This may get them going... or just more of the same and helps Calgary reach the playoffs this season.

Everyone knew Miller was going to be dealt but it feels weird that he finally got dealt. They should have got more back imo but who knows what the market was. I wonder if Demko, EP and Boeser get traded too. Surprised at the return, Vancouver lost the trade.

Boeser is the player on Vancouver at forward who always scares me the most. Solid player.

Basically the return I was expecting for Miller after this saga dragged on for so long. Good for us Flames fans as this trade doesn't make Vancouver that much better in the short term.

Sounds about right (the return) for a locker room cancer with skill.

I thought the going rate was a lightly used Ruslan Zainullin.

The Rangers seemed to be having locker room issues of their own this season. I wonder what adding a head case like Miller will do.

That's only when you've also got a coach who is a locker-room cancer without skill.

I think that what you think about this trade is determined by Chytil. Because if you think he's a ~50 point center, then this is a decent trade. You've moved off a 31 year old player in decline for a 25 year old one who costs about half as much, you retained no salary and got a couple of upside bets with a young, good-skating RHD who's 6'4 and could be a 2nd pairing guy if he hits, as well as what looks like it'll be somewhere in the 15-20 range (the Rangers currently sit 12th in draft order but will likely either make the wild card or just miss it).

If you think Chytil is a ~4M cap hit that is going to spend his remaining term on LTIR, then it's pretty underwhelming but I guess at least you cleared cap space.

It's not a very good return but it's not terrible either, especially given the situation they put themselves in, largely because they didn't retain salary. That's the big silver lining for them.

Let ‘em have this one. When you can’t win a cup and you’re about to lose your franchise player to free agency, “Champions of making guys feel so embarrassed for losing to us that they want a fresh start on a different team” is probably as good as it gets.

I get it for the Canucks. A little worried that this sparks them.

Either that, or February is Buyer's Remorse Month.
