If you're talking purely offensively, sure, I guess. But that's always been a bonus to Backlund's game, not the focus of it.
He's great at what he does and somehow manages to make his linemates better players at the same time.
Put whoever's struggling on his wing and they usually get sorted within a game or two.

Yes he is good. Still young but needs an opportunity to be a true #1 to reach full potential. Not happening behind the likes of Makar,Dahlin and potentially Q. Hughes.

Trouble is part if our scoring woes is Backs downgrade on what was never more than middle six production.
Put scoronato with a with the two new acquisitions and tell them to score some goals.

Oh I definitely hope we see a Farabee - Frost - Coronato line.
I just think saying Backlund is declining in front of our eyes is only an offensive production take.

Have no problem having Backs in the bottom six i still think he is a great mentor but i dont want him on the second power play unit.

If Conroy ever does an acquire and flip relatively immediately move, I'd expect he would not hold a press briefing in person on the first deal either. He'd likely be directed by Flames PR to hold off on any in-person media interviews for now, let the official Flames socials communicate the acquisitions and he can do a presser after the 2nd deal is completed.

Likely? I remember Paulie and Trentcrim were both banned around the same time and then I feel like both also re-joined also around the same time. Could be wrong though since my memory is terrible now!

On 32 thoughts today, talking Boston, Friedman said Fluto in Boston is a very careful and plugged in reporter, and when he writes that trading Marchand is an option, EF thinks that means there is a very real chance they are considering it. Team is ass right now.

There is no denying that Backlund's offensive game has started to diminish, not that it was ever his strength to begin with. He still however has the legs and smarts to still to really control things at even strength. He's now an ideal 3c, as opposed to the 2c he was before but that's ok. That is why the trade for Frost makes so much sense for this roster and why it was so important for Conroy to address it.

We've heard this many years in a row now at this point in the season. With Backlund, though, it seems we have to wait until the 2nd half of the season is complete before this can be concluded.

At even strength Calgary doesn't really have much a difference between 2nd and third line, at least when Zary comes back. Backlund just has to take on the harder assignments.

With the trade yesterday, I feel like the Flames could put together at least 3 lines that are more or less better than the average second line (though not number 1 lines). Depending how they put them together, perhaps even a 4th line is just slightly below the other 3 in terms of skill/potential impact.

Kinda feels like the year one Vegas knights once Bahl and Zary return. 3 lines that are all line a #2 line and a better than average 4th line. A fantastic goalie. Underdogs.
Not a perfect analogy of course. They aren't leading the division and they don't have a Karlsson type scorer (though Coronato can get close eventually i thinki). More just in terms of a balanced 4 line offense, great structure, and a tight team.
Not a bad starting point for a retool.

Feels like since Johnny and Tkacuk Left we haven't had an actually first line, just assortments of 2nd and 3rd lines.

Wonder if the Flyers plan to make all their picks in the 2025 draft or bundle them to move up? They have 7 picks in the first 2 rounds of this draft (3 firsts and 4 seconds). The firsts are from the Oilers and Colorado so who knows how late they will be. They could potentially package several picks to get another pick in the top 15.

There’s a scenario where both Miller and Petey are moved, this is wild.
