Huberdeau, even if he can be a 65 - 70 point average play we for 3 more seasons, will look like he's on a reasonable deal by then.
Kadri may well be full value near up till the end. I don't see him really being below 40 points even in the final year or 2.
Wolf is gonna get paid! 8.5 x 8 may not be out of the question.
Ditto Coronato and Zary. Possibly both getting in the 7 range
Yet we should still have plenty of room to grow a competitive team. Dare I dream of a Makar in 2027? It sure would be nice to have a superstar actually choose Calgary for once.
Not a bad time at all to be attempting this retool/rebuild or whatever you wanna call it.
And yea like dissentowner has been insisting, Toronto may well throw the bag at McDavid to lure him away from coilerville.

Not great news for the flames at this point because they have so much cap space. They may end up dipping into free agency and spending big on something in 2-3 years I guess (Makar anyone?), but for now, this just helps teams like Edmonton who are in capped out and have players to sign.

If anything, it swings it the other way because the Flames will need that big cap (and Kadri's) just to stay above an ever-increasing floor.

Really hope that the Flames sign all their RFAs to as much term as possible (if Murray will allow it moneywise). Because the Flames will have absolutely no cap problems in the next 3 years and if anything will have hitting the floor problems in two years if they do not sign these guys to big dollar contracts.
If Wolf, Coronato and Zary all want north of 7 million to sign 8 year contracts do it. You ain’t going to encounter any cap problems.

Holy, that year three cap is almost as high as the salary of VGK when they won the Cup.

Flames only need to spend about ~$12MM to get to the floor. That'll be easy with their RFA's. Columbus though, ooof. As of today, they have to spend ~$25MM to get to the floor. No big names to re-sign and need only 8 players to get to 23. They have to be active either now or July 1st or both.

Yeah. Really hope they are all willing to sign long term. Their agents will likely be wanting them to do bridge deals because a $7 million AAV player today would be signed for $10 million in 3 years.

I could see them making an anttempt to sign Rantanen and/or trade for Petterson. They have the space and the pieces to do it.

Andersson is probably getting over $8-9m now on a six year deal. I thought $7-$7.5 max.

Hopefully the exchange rate improves before then or the smaller market Canadian teams are going to feel the pain.

By the end of Farabee's deal...his 5 million per year will be a average salary for each player on a 23 man roster at the upper limit.

I remember buying a Doug Weight shirt the day he was traded (bought it a few hours before the trade) for Jochen Hecht plus other things. All because of the $39 M salary cap.......how times have changed. Wild that it will be $114 M soon.

Wasn’t Doug Weight traded in early 00s? The salary cap wasn’t a thing till the 05/06 season.

Speculation is CBJ are going big game hunting this summer. Wouldn’t be shocking to see Rantanen or Marner wind up there with the biggest contract in the league. Or they might sign several smaller (but still huge) deals like Boeser, Ekblad, etc.

Marner seems the most likely - still close to home, and he can be 'the guy'.
It's going to be a wild summer though - somebody is going to pay a guy like Boeser $10M+. And then regret it for a long time.
