I think the other aspect is potentially adding more offense to the lineup may get Calgary to come out of the defensive shell they have to play. Team went from near the top of the league from goals from the back end to the bottom. I don't think they are as confident as they were last year jumping into the play, not wanting to make a mistake.

It also stabilizes the lines with another center. Insert Frost and Sharangovich moves to the wing.

The math works, but let's be honest, if anyone proposed this, they would get shredded for being a homer. This is a pretty big win for the Flames.

I love Pelletier, and I love what he brings. But we need a C, and Frost is a pretty good one. Again, if anyone proposes that we offer Pelletier straight up for Frost (okay, we'll throw in a 7th), they're getting mocked for being a homer.

Both halves of this trade are clear wins for the Flames. They are a better team today than yesterday. And by a fair margin, IMO.

So if we break it down this way.

Flames gave up Lindholm... and now a 2nd for...

and ... ?? what did we trade the 4th round pick from Vancouver last year to Philly for?

Both Farabee and Frost have been rather sheltered in their roles their careers at 5v5. And this year have struggled.

Let's hope that's a system issue and the Flames coaches can put them in a good spot to succeed.

Neither have hit their breakout age yet either, so that's good! Still room for growth!

Looking back and watching that haul ... excellent work by Conroy, no matter how you slice it. The franchise is in really good hands, no doubt.

ESPN gives the tarde a B+ for both teams. Doesn't really mean anything but kind of seems like they don't think much of Farabee and they put some value on the Flyers getting out from underneath that contract.

Let's see how these guys play here I guess. I'm still of the view that all the Flames really gave up here was a second round pick.

If the contribution that Kuzmenko and Pelletier made to the dressing room was actually resulting in wins, I'd argue that is not sustainable anyway.

Craig Conroy is a deal maker. He gets deals done. How many times did we hear about his predecessor being in on a deal but it just didn't happen? You'll hear that about all GMs but it was getting tiring to hear that the Flames were in on all these players but the price was too prohibitive. Yet, here we are, Conroy finds himself in a position to put his own stamp on the team and he identifies what he needs to do and he makes it happen.

He won't hit homeruns on every deal but he makes deals.

It's an interesting trade. The only way to justify it from the Flyers perspective is that they get out of Farabees contract. I understand the player is young, but he's not playing up to his contract. Add to this that the player did not jive with Torts and you can see how the trade makes sense for the flyers too.

- Improve dressing room by removing two players struggling with Torts
- Being in Pelletier who will bring a ton of energy, is super affordable and is only 23
- Get out of an overpriced contract in Farabee to free up cap space that can be redeployed
- give kuzmenko a try out in hopes it gives Michkov a boost

The flames did great, upgrading their roster and adding two, young, 2-way players. And cap space isn't a constraint for the Flames.

I think it's a decent trade for both teams and could be a win-win.

Looking at last year's highlights Farabee knows how to get into the empty ice, is speedy and has a nice shot.
