Ya, and with the plane banking left to the runway, they would have lost any visibility in that direction.
But it also seems like a recipe for disaster having a heli flight path cut between the plane flight path to the runway.

And after reading a statement of sympathy, the orange president goes into taking a victory lap about how HE changed the air traffic controller hiring after Obama screwed up. STFU. This is not the time and shows, once again, it is ALL about fat Donny. I had thought he might blame Biden.

Why was the heli there? No expert, but that seems like a pretty dumb spot to fly through.

Lots of military traffic and training flights transition through that area.

Secretaries speaking at the press conference, before discussing the incident, express love and affection to fat Donny. OMG!!! Is that real? DEI hiring is to blame. Biden now to blame too. This is a disgusting display.

But if they are going across that flight path, shouldn't they have a hard ceiling(or floor, if flying higher) so there is no chance of collision?

Watching the coverage last night indicates there is a designated flight path down the river for helicopter ("helicopter avenue").

For anyone who cares, this is what the Trump order did to the FAA:
Contrary to popular belief, there was no actual freeze.

Is this all untrue then?

It was pointed out on another forum that one of the aircraft given go around instructions after the accident was vectored into that P-56A prohibited airspace, which encompasses the White House and Capital building. Have to wonder if there was any "pucker factor" going on in that flight deck as they transited that airspace?
This is the flight in question: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao...ace=2025-01-30

This isn’t that different from Trump blaming it on DEI hiring. How about we just refrain from blaming for a while.

Really interesting- I was wondering while listening to the recording why that pilot triple checked his new heading and altitude order. It was probably because of this.

Is there any way that the plane turning/banking could have hidden its navigation lights to the helicopter? When the helicopter acknowledged seeing the CRJ they didn’t actually see the one right in front of them?

Here's the thing, an object on a collision course with you will not move on your windscreen. It will be a dot that will simply get larger until the collision. Harder to catch that since the eye is attuned to movement.
As to the navigation lights, I'm pretty sure they are designed so that there would never be a situation in which they are all obscured.

Except I wasn't blaming Trump directly just saying it was ironic and showed how short sighted those moves were. It was also disingenuous to suggest I was exaggerating and he only cut one meaningless thing. He made massive cuts and will continue to do so everywhere in government.
Then for the cherry on top he blames the tower and dei himself lol. Defending Trump in ANY way never ages well.

They have anti-collision lights on the top and bottom of a plane plus the wing tip positioning lights. Some sort of light would also be visible.

January 21: Hiring freeze. False. The exec order eliminated DEI, with no hiring freeze. Given the very low number of minorities that apply to the FAA this order has little to no practical effect.
January 22: Committee disbanded. Somewhat false. It still exists, technically... it will be repurposed.
January 29: "First mid-air in 16 years." False. There have been numerous mid-air collisions in the last 16 years in the US. This one had a ton of coverage:

And yes, the January 21 one is untrue, in practical terms.
And so is the January 29 for that matter... since there have been numerous mid-air collisions in the last 16 years.

I didn't say it caused the accident, you just posted it was only the DEI hire thing that happened, but the FAA director was fired, was he not(President Elon didn't like him because he made SpaceX follow rules)?
Anyway, not here for a pissing contest, just that there was more than just the DEI thing.
