Is Trump expecting Canada to set up another border 100 feet from the actual border where we inspect people as they leave Canada?

Yeah, I don’t get it. Is Trump insinuating that US border guards are trash?

We were in Oz for two months. Much of that was with our Aussie friends. He’s in his 70s and I figured he didn’t get old by ignorance so in walks through woods I stepped where he did and only touched things with his approval.

I don't disagree with the concept though, as long as it works both ways. It's annoying that many illegal firearms come into Canada and I wish they would do more to stop it. Border security should work both ways.
It just bugs the hell out of me that they don't think we have the same issue with them nor are they proposing anything to improve it.

I guess the idea is we have to deal with drug gangs and illegal immigrants here so there are fewer to catch at the border.

I think they are speaking of the long undefended portion. I believe areas like Native Reserves and vast swaths of land are where the problem is.
If we had a well equipped military maybe we could use their equipment and manpower to avoid tariffs. Do we have any airworthy military helicopters at this point?

Black Hawk helicopters are monitoring the border as we speak.
Maybe not literally as we speak, but basically yes, we have them and are now using them to appease the US (their main purpose is to stop people coming in from the US border, of course).

From what I saw, for every 1 person who comes over here illegally from the Canadian side there are 30-40 people who are doing it from the Mexican side. Seems like a convenient excuse to claim everything is a problem.
And no one's even talking about the people who fly over here to "visit" and never leave.
He's more fixated on Canada, Panama, and Greenland than China now. Didn't have that on my bingo card.

I do wonder if this is all a play to get after Mexico. Canada makes some token changes, Trump says "see, Mexico, Canada fixed their issues and we removed tariffs. Your turn."
Mexico is a much bigger problem economically for the US, because labour is cheaper, and the Chinese are using it as a back door into our trade block, while rapidly displacing US brands. So it makes sense for them to be a bigger target.

Interesting idea with respect to Mexico. Hadn't thought of that.
The dirty little secret is that American consumers have an insatiable appetite for Chinese products. Very few people are going to spend more money because a comparable item says made in USA. They have a competitive advantage over us with respect to labor (morally or immorally) that we happily took advantage of for decades. Now we are threatening to kill the golden goose for everyone.
It's an interesting gambit because if everyone else ignores Trump and the drugs and illegal immigrants keep coming in at a comparable rate, we still have no choice but to maintain our own defense spending. The casualty will be to make the world economy worse off, including for US consumers. It's good game theory to bet that won't happen because it requires mass cooperation on behalf of the rest of the world and no one acting in individual self-interest.

Meh, I’m more worried about our economy. I can’t feed my kids with feel good stories about standing up to a bully or some other stuff that largely amounts to nonsense.

I haven’t been this worried about the country since Trudeau was elected.
Thinking we are in for a very rough few years. Would not be surprised to see record declines in GDP and the C$. And that’s assuming PP wins a majority.
Here’s hoping Trump pulls back on tariffs and Singh follows through on his promise.
Ya I’m dreaming.

Oh- Canada is super ####ed for sure. You can’t be this divided with no economic prospects and expect good things. Canadians should be very prepared for standards of living to seriously dip.

Speaking of patrolling Blackhawk Helicopters:
An American Airlines regional jet went down in the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after colliding with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter, Wednesday night, prompting a multi-agency search-and-rescue operation, according to officials.
Trump Guts Key Aviation Safety Committee, Fires Heads Of TSA, Coast Guard, Hiring freeze on air traffic controllers...not sure if they were a factor here but shows how short sighted gutting these agencies is.
