If you're into movies, the Blank Check podcast is really fun. They focus on directors who had big successes early in their careers, which gave them money and free rein to make whatever passion projects they wanted going forward.
They're currently doing a series on Martin Brest of Beverly Hills Cop fame, and they just put out an episode on one of my favorite movies of all time, Midnight Run. Great stuff.

"Queer and dumb" is super good. The basic idea is answering dumb (and less dumb) questions that non-queer people have about queer topics, highly recommended if you want to inform yourself or just be less dumb around queer people "The Queer" in the show, Jamie McDonald, is not just a friend of mine, but quite funny (a professional stand-up comedian), and literally the absolute best at explaining things in a simple, friendly and informative way. Never feels like homework, I promise. You also don't have to be particularly woke to listen to this, just interested in hearing a perspective.
For any history buffs, I would also very highly recommed "Bad Gays", which is a show about "Evil and complicated gays in history". The format of the show is that the first 4/5 or so they just go through the life of a historical person, followed by discussion. I quite often skip the discussion, but the show is still great for hearing about a lot of really interesting historical characters that aren't always talked about that much, or very interesting takes on already well known characters. The show is most interested in cultural history, so you get a lot of stories about the ways in which different times and places were different in interesting ways. Of course, a lot of it is about the way they were different in gay ways, but that too is often extremely interesting stuff, even for non-gays like myself.
The hosts are super left and woke, but it doesn't get in the way of the history because the show is not trying to convert anyone, so the sidetracks are always short.

The Six Billion Dollar Gold Scam
https://www.cbc.ca/listen/cbc-podcas...llar-gold-scam
Quote:
It was the biggest gold discovery in history... until it wasn’t. In 1995, Canadian mining company Bre-X announced to the world it had found a significant amount of gold deep in the jungles of Indonesia. Stock prices soared as investors worldwide fought to stake their claim. But when Bre-X’s chief geologist mysteriously fell from a helicopter over the jungle, the story of the billion dollar discovery began to unravel. Nearly three decades later, no one has ever been held accountable. Now, host Suzanne Wilton takes listeners from the jungles of Indonesia to small town Alberta, Canada, to investigate what really happened and find out more about the man behind the biggest goldmine fraud of all time. Produced for the BBC World Service and CBC by BBC Scotland Productions.

Seth Andrews brings on a palentologist to break down and address the complete garbage spewing out of Mel Gibson and Joe Rogan's pieholes. They say a lot of incorrect things, a lot. And then there are the claims of curing cancer with horse deworming medication, all sorts of lunacy.

I'll check that out for sure. I was wanting a podcast that deals more with human nature and what's happening with social media and politics that ones directly addressing specific examples of misinformation spreaders. But will definitely check that out.

Yeah I like that one.. also The Flop House is good for a less serious version, where they watch bad movies instead. Pretty knowlegable group and very funny

Maybe flip through Ezra Kleins back catalogue,
Even if you don't have the same politics as him, he takes the people he interview seriously and considers what they say, I'm sure he has several episodes on the topic. A lot of consideration around the problem, but I'm not sure he or anyone has solutions ready to go.
I also liked this one, although not really updated for 2024.

What about Canadaland? I grab episodes from time to time, they land in those areas once in a while.
