Yeah Rossi is 10x the player Cozens is. You actually notice him playing. Need to get over the obsession with size.

I still don't see why the Wild would move Rossi. If they do I can't see them not wanting a C back.

With how good the Flames season is going I can understand increasing the urgency on trying to acquire that under 25 center and that result could be a more aggressive approach to acquiring that player and putting some assets on the table they otherwise wouldn’t want to. End of the day the plan stays the same but how hard they will pursue that piece now as opposed to being patient is due to this team vastly outperforming expectations

I said a few days ago that a Rossi for Cozens swap would make a lot of sense. You know, in a world where the Wild want to trade Marco Rossi and think it'll improve their team for some reason.
Sabres want to trade Cozens for a C who can play now. Wild want to upgrade Rossi's size. They're roughly the same age.

Horrific trade for the Wild. Just because someone is big doesn’t make them good.
I mean since they are in the west would love it.

Trading assets you don’t want to for 1 playoff round during year 1 of the rebuild isn’t sticking to the plan. The plan is blown up and you will have to pick up the pieces and start all over again delaying everything.

If Vancouver or Minnesota want to make that trade that would be awesome for us. 2 really good players out of the west.

Perhaps the Flames were planning a more conservative approach because they were aware of the situation and like many of us were planning a bottom 10 finish to protect the pick. Conroy has stated since before the season he wanted an age appropriate right shot center. That has always been the plan but maybe based off some of the nuggets from Sec the Flames are considering getting gutsy in their approach. Likely because Wolf, Coronato and Zary look like the real deal and the team has been heavily in the mix all year.
Maybe none of this happens and the Flames make little to no moves between now and the deadline?

He said exactly what conroy has been saying and it has nothing to do with ignoring the plan… it’s about getting that young centre to “rebuild” with. That will require assets, because oddly enough, any young centre worth trading for has value.
Just because you don’t like how “the plan” is going, doesn’t mean it’s not the plan.
I’ve said before I’d have preferred a tear it down rebuild and a shot at a top three pick, but with the team doing what it’s doing, and having a goalie perform as well as Wolf, you can’t completely blow it up unless you trade the goalie… and if you do that, you’re… Buffalo. But at least you’re following “the plan.”

I think it depends on what those assets bring back i think. Lets say it is cozens and he costs gridin lets say. It would be trading from an are of strength as we have a multitude of wingers , especially left side. I think if you get cozens out of that dumpster fire i think you have a young middle more likely top six Center locked up long term. If you look around the league middle six top six centers are at an absolute premium.
It addresses an are of weakness on the team and organization from a glut if wingers we cant possibly all have on the squad.
Rossi i just have no idea why he would be traded?

Wolf looks like the real deal. Coronato and Zary look like middle 6 guys. You make it sound like they're two top line players the Flames will build around. Heavily in the mix for a wild card is vastly different than in the mix as a contender. This team hasn't even bottomed out yet. I really hope they continue to accumulate picks and stay patient.

Coronato is not a middle six player, middle six players generally don’t project to be 30 goal guys. You score 25-30 goals in this league you are in the top 60-75 goal scorers in the league. That is not a third line player.
Zary at worst is a second line player in the league, definitely not a third liner.
IMO they should not trade picks and should be looking for ways they can get picks like the Mangiapane trade. But they don’t need to bottom out, that is not a necessary step to build a championship calibre team.

Getting a 2nd round pick for Mangiapane was solid asset management and a good return for a guy that's turned into a bottom 6 forward. The Flames need to make more moves where they are selling their replaceable players for picks and not the other way around.

Over reaching ...
Coronato at 25 goals would be a top 90 goal scorer at the NHL level. If he's a 30 goal guy he's top 45.
32 teams ... he's developing into a top line player.
Zary likely a solid 2nd line guy.
(or what Gavey said!)

I see Coronato being at best a good 2nd line guy. I really don't see enough elite talent there needed to be a 1st liner. Sure, you can play him on 1st line, but on a contender I don't see him ever being a 1st liner.
Zary I don't want to set a limit because I do see some game changing skills at times. I think best case for him would be low end 1st line center.
Either way, that user has some good points. We don't have 1st line prospects at forward, and this is the beginning of the rebuild. It's great we have Wolf who is playing unreal, although goalies are unpredictable and even that isn't a certainty based off of one year.
We still need a lot of assets. I would love to collect a few Wolf and Parekh type assets at forward over the next couple years.

I used to think like you, but the kid that's only 22, and has exceeded my expectations every single time. I really didn't like his stride and strength on his skates, this season his weakness became a strength. He used to lose 80% of the 50/50 battles he was in, now he wins more than he losses. He has matured his game quite a bit.
I think he can become a top line player if he starts getting lost in coverage a little better, and/or makes his shot even more deceptive. My point is that it's way too early to set a ceiling on a guy like Coronato that so far has looked vastly improved after each off-season.
