They could probably get Trump to support taking back Crimea if they call it Trumpland.

Quote:
Writing in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump said Russia’s economy was failing and urged Vladimir Putin to “settle now and stop this ridiculous war”.
Without a deal, Trump said “I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries.”
The statement marks Trump’s most detailed efforts yet to end the war in Ukraine.
“Let’s get this war, which never would have started if I were President, over with! We can do it the easy way, or the hard way — and the easy way is always better,” he said.
|
He still has no idea how tariffs work or what's being going on the past 3 years, but frankly I see this as a very positive direction for Ukraine.

"I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries."
What exactly is the United States buying from Russia? And aren't there already 'crippling' sanctions on Russia? You just know that this braindead monologue is a prelude to the sanctions from the US being lifted.

Eh, not necessirily. The POTUS is an easily manipulated moron who knows nothing and says random crap because he likes the sound of his own voice, and everyone knows that, so people around him with different agendas are trying to push him to do what they want. There's some anti-Russian cold war hawks in his cabinet and other world leaders like Zelenskyi but probably some others too are certainly trying to influence him.
It's very hard to predict who will win that manipulation contest, but one thing is very easy to predict: Trump will at no point have an actual plan beyond massaging his own ego and growing more rich and powerful.

The U.S. buys a significant amount of enriched uranium from Russia.
I suppose that they can start with tariffs on that commodity.

The US administration just comes across as confused.
Demand that allies spend the min 2% threshold.
But then the President makes statements saying that defending against Russia was wrong.
The US gives military aid, but then bitches and moans about it at the same time.
If Russia is the enemy, then you support your friend fighting the enemy. It should be that simple.

Hard to tell how valid this is, judge for yourself. Trump's 100 Day peace plan for Ukraine: https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trum...report-2021215
Quote:
On Sunday, Strana, a Ukrainian outlet, published details of the purported plan to end the war in a few months, writing that it had been discussed in "political and diplomatic circles" in Ukraine. Newsweek was unable to independently verify whether the details of the plan were accurate.
|
Quote:
In declaring a ceasefire, Ukrainian troops would also be withdrawn from Kursk, and an International Peace Conference would commence its work to forge an agreement between Russia and Ukraine to end the war, to be mediated by other global powers. A declaration on the agreed parameters for ending the war would be released by May 9, after which Kyiv would be asked not to extend martial law or mobilize.
The proposed parameters of the agreement to end the war include barring Ukraine from becoming a member of NATO and declaring neutrality, Kyiv becoming a part of the EU by 2030, and the EU facilitating postwar reconstruction. Ukraine would also maintain the size of its army and continue to receive military support from the U.S. It would also "refuse military and diplomatic attempts to return the occupied territories" and "officially recognize the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over them."
|
So the plan basically is that Ukraine withdraws from Kursk, Russia keeps what it stole, and Ukraine is barred from joining NATO. To me it just feels like Trump just wants to be the one in office when the war ends so he can claim that he 'ended the war'. Nevermind that Ukraine gets absolutely ####ed over by the 'plan'.

The article notes:
Quote:
Spravdi, a Ukrainian organization established to counter disinformation, wrote in 2021 that Strana had been "repeatedly mentioned in the monitoring of public organizations and international partners as one that communicates Russian propaganda."
|
so best to take it with a grain of salt. The fact that Ukraine withdrawing from Kursk precedes the rest of the negotiations makes it suspect in my mind.

The whole not being able to Join NATO because they get a pinky swear that Russia won't attack them worked out great for them in the past.

Goddam that Leopard is lethal. I actually saw a video about a week ago of a Bradley disabling a modern T-90 with just the 25mm cannon by continually firing at the enemy optics. I guess the operator said he learned the maneuver in a video game. If a Bradley can halt a tank like a T-90, the Russian would be right to #### his pants at the sight of a Leopard or an Abrams.
Interesting about the Rheinmetall CEO being a target. Makes you wonder if he is a legitimate target or just a civilian. His company is definitely arming NATO countries. Does that make the entire board a target? Middle managers? Boeing and Lockheed Martin employees?
