We also have duer, kuz, lombo, and pospisil.
Stromgren is ready to come up, Honzek probably next year as well as klapka. Then we have basha, battaglia, I Dar Suniev, gridin and misa if he projects more as a winger.
Expending some of those wing assets as well as two firsts and two seconds this year, we have the assets to swing for a center we dont have the room for all those wingers, and we saw what an injury to zary did to our depth.
Conroy find that center.

Agreed that the Flames top priority is liking finding an 25 and under right handed center.
Problem is that might not be available
I would guess, he will also look to improve the team in others ways
Doesn't mean, grabbing pending UFAs, etc

First of all the team has zero pending free agents that have any value, so holding on to guys like Kuzmenko, Rooney, Hanley, Vladar will cost them nothing.
If they spend a 5th, 6th or 7th rounder to bring in some depth, meh. It will show that management has their backs, but doesn't really cost them anything.

Some treat this like Be a GM mode on NHL 2025. Players are not "assets" only. There is value to development, value of having certain players help other players develop, value to playing in meaningful games as a youngster etc. Not everything can be boiled down to the value of a player on the trade market.

Can't I just keep hitting the X button until the trade goes through?

I think its going to be a case of being patient. Guys like that really dont come up often but i think the second one does conny will be all over it.
I could see some type of deal for a puck moving 4 5 type if defencemen. We dont get much scoring from the backend.
I could see a deal for an overpriced four five guy for a third or fourth type of deal.

I'd like to see a three way trade to get Petterson to CGY. He would be the #1 C we need for the next 6+ years.
We could offer up great winger & D prospects + draft picks.
I imagine a scenario of Florida's 1st rd pick + Honzek + Poirier + Kuznetsov could be appealing enough to a team. We could also take a cap dump if required.
I just have no idea who the third party team could be.

My guess is that even after moving Pettersson, Vancouver wants to compete now, as they'd have Miller and Hugues both in their prime, with Miller quickly moving out of his prime. Vancouver is likely looking for a player who will step into that #2 d-man or 1st line winger role now, and they probably want someone good.
I don't think even a player like Zary would get it done. Calgary likely doesn't have the piece Vancouver is looking for.

I think you're forgetting about Barrie...jk the expiring vets all suck. Maybe Mantha doesn't suck, but he's injured.

Kadri to Colorado for Mittelstadt + 1st
Andersson + Mittelstadt + 2nd for Pettersson
Something like that is probably what it would take for Pettersson.

lol I think at this point you would have been happy if they traded Wolf to try and get a top 5 pick.

Someone on this forum (I think) had a suggestion for a trade between Vancouver & Buffalo. I think it was Pettersson & Hoglander for Cozens & Byram. Probably some picks too.
That seemed to me to be the basis of an actual deal that would work. Not the full deal, but parts are there which work for both teams. No need for the Flames or anyone to broker anything.

I am willing to take fair lumps about my pessimism on the team, but this is silly. I have been a wolf supporter for years, and wanted the flames to trade Markstrom sooner to elevate Wolf. I am consistent.

Vancouver, clearly not dealing from a position of strength, wants a potential #1C back in the deal. That C makes less than Pettersson, signed for around the same length I think. Vancouver takes back a young D, RFA, will need a new deal but they want someone who can play behind Hughes and log some good minutes. Buffalo gets a star C obviously and a reclamation project winger who has some term. Favors done on both sides in a way.
I mean it was looking like Vancouver was being offered Necas and maybe Drury for Pettersson or Miller. I don't see this deal as being worse.

Necas wasn't part of the Miller deal only Pettersson, and it also sounds like this was a deal floated before he signed his extension.
I would say yes Cozens is a significant downgrade over Necas, only thing he has over him is he can play center.
THis might end up being a Rantanen like return but this is a signed player that will be inserted into a team that can compete for the next 3-4 years.
I mean I would love for Vancouver to get ripped off don't get me wrong, just can't see them getting ripped off like that.

Then you are consistent in wanting two contradictory things at the same time. You want the team to lose games, but you also want them to go on playing the goalie who is stealing games for them. It's silly to demand both.

I think it some ways we're saying the same thing. Vancouver isn't winning a Pettersson trade.

Exactly. Wolf is basically the reason the team is even where it is at. I would get the belly aching if they kept Markstrom.

Personally even the best trades at this time of year seem to do more to disrupt team chemistry than anything. So many times I see teams looking better on paper, but taking a step back in results.
With how much this team seems to be running on chemistry (and chemistry between the Flames and Wranglers too), think worry that changes are more likely to backfire than help.
