Lifetime Suspension

It’s not even a fake Olympics it’s a #### all star game lol. You can’t call it best on best and leave out 4 countries and half the best players. You can’t call it best on best and limit it to only NHL players.
If you want something outside the Olympics and it to matter you need to partner up with the IIHF and other leagues and create something that happens every 2-3 years and allows all the best players in the WORLD not just NHL to compete for their countries.
How fun would it be to have a Gavin McKennna and Bedard get shot here. Just the talk of including Hyman on Canada makes this tournament disgusting.

I dont know if they'll bail necessarily, but I do dispute the use of the term 'Best on Best.'
Yeah, some of the best players in game are likely to attend to win...what? It has no prestige. They're not going to be 'giving their all.'
They're going to sleep-walk through this Circus while their teammates live it up on a beach somewhere, someone will raise some random trophy that the coffee-boy/intern probably bought at Dick's Sporting Goods and then everyone has to go back to work.
Yay??

No idea if there is actual compensation for playing, but the money made goes directly to HRR.
That will mean a higher cap, which means more $$ available to all players.

So when is weager going to be named his replacement? Feel he should have made it the first time. I highly doubt anybody on team or being considered has had to play with 6-7 dman as a partner for the whole season.

Yup, a decade of greed and pettiness keeping a generation of fans and a strong contingent of Flames players from enjoying Olympic hockey has jaded me significantly. The World Cup w 2 joke teams. 4 Nations Tournament? Who cares? If I was a player I wouldn't GAF either. They wanted to be OLYMPIC GOLD medalists. It's something above their sport. No one cares about made-up championships.

The problem with hockey is that the IIHF and the NHL don't get along, and therefore there is no best-on-best with any sort of history or prestige. This tournament is a blatant money grab for the NHL dressed up as an international competition. It isn't.
The world championships is the closest we get to a tournament with historical prestige, but neither party (IIHF or NHL) are willing to tweak their schedule to truly make it best-on-best.
So here we are. I hope Weegs doesn't go; risk of injury too great.

As hockey fans, I would say he have been screwed over from the IOC and their picks of where the Olympics are being held, as well as from the NHL's ineptness at supporting anything to replace it.
I know I would have loved to have seen Gaudreau a bit more on the international stage - we certainly missed out there. Backlund would have been a fixture there too (and maybe he deserves being part of this thing now). Not to mention MacKinnon - Crosby - McDavid on Team Canada.
I get why they didn't go to some of the games, but they should have damn well created and ran their own international tourney and kept it going all of these years. Its a damn shame.

This is the biggest buck for me, personally. Not getting to see Gaudreau compete for gold alongside Tkachuk while they were Flames is unforgivable.
Backlund
Lindholm
Markstrom
Andersson
Gaudreau
Tkachuk
Hanafin?
Gio
Like.... Come on!

He will be in the mix, but he isnt a shoe-in.
If Doughty is available, he will get the call.
Also Montour and Tanev will get consideration.

I think the biggest question about this tournament is if the players will actually try.
Will they treat it like an Olympics or Like an All-Star Game?
My guess is it will be more like an All-Star game with no big hits or rough stuff, just pond hockey.

Doughty has missed the whole season so far, why would they choose him and even more importantly why would LA let him play in this?

They would choose him because he was on the team before he broke his ankle and because he has been a very good and loyal soldier to Hockey Canada through many years now.
He is also very close to playing....practicing without the non-contact jersey plus he is travelling with the team on their current road trip. Probably see him debut this week and maybe even tonight.
LA has no say in whether he plays or not, its a players decision.

At this point, with the lack of hype around this made up tournament, I'd almost rather Weegar get the extra time off to rest any bumps and bruises he may have gotten over the seasons so far

Not a best on best when the top goal scorer and 2 of the top 3 point getters aren't in the tournament.
