All I can get

They can take their time for all I care. I won’t be buying any of their merchandise anyways.

It hasn't changed that much, no. Manufacturing turnaround is faster. Communicating with fans is faster and more effective, thanks to this little thing called the Internet. There is no reason why this process should take any longer than it did before.

I guess we could include the Quakers and Bulldogs in there too. But taking time to brand themselves makes sense to me, what’s the point of rushing? Hell they are going to sell a bunch more stuff this way.
|
Are they? I can't see people lining up to buy generic jerseys that will be outdated in a year.

Seattle wasn't playing hockey games before the name was revealed. And as you say, Vegas took five months. There's no reason for Utah to take longer than Vegas, is there?

I’m not sure who you’re referencing with “as every other relocated team has done” considering in the last 30 years I think there has been a grand total of two or three teams that moved and didn’t just keep the same name or use the name of the last franchise that was there.
|
Four teams have relocated in the last 30 years. Three (Avalanche, Coyotes, Hurricanes) were renamed and rebranded. While the Jets used the name of the previous Winnipeg franchise, they designed the uniforms and logo from scratch. And all four of those teams did it in one off-season.

I don’t know why you’re hung up on a year and a half. It’s not going to take a year and a half, but they want to take longer than 3 months. They’re getting fans involved (instead of Colorado that almost ####ed it and called themselves the “Rocky Mountain Extreme” until everyone hated it lol).
If Utah takes the same amount of time as Vegas, that puts them past the start of the season. I think we can both agree that they need a jersey and everything before they start playing games.
Maybe you can explain to me what the manufacturing deadlines for Fanatics is to produce NHL jersey changes for the on ice product, and some of the turnaround times for the elements required here, and then we can see where Utah went wrong by taking the extra time to involve the fans in the naming process.

The change has nothing to do with manufacturing or communications. The $ value associated with branding and merchandise has ballooned compared to 30 years ago. It’s a much bigger business decision.
So the team thinks they can maximize their opportunity by not making branding decisions in 3 months. Sure makes sense to me.
Yeah I don’t imagine general hockey fans will be buying the current merch but local fans are going to show up at games with it. And then they’ll immediately replace them.
Branding is about campaigns, feedback, building anticipation. I see no reason for them to be impatient here.

They can send us a 2nd rounder and we'll let them use the Salt Lake Golden Eagles again.

My face is a bum!
|
I can't imagine the multitude of things the NHL does that has logos of all of the teams on them - images used for broadcasting, schedules, NHL desk calendars, season promotional posters, ad campaigns that are booked well in advance of the season, draft table placards, etc. I'm assuming it's a major ordeal to handle a logo change and they need some lead time before each season to get them incorporated into everything.

That's true. They can't even get King Charles on our money, it's going to be a few more years.

It looks like Yeti was denied, as were Venom and Blizzard.
Mammoth and Outlaws are still on the table. They have one more month to claim Mammoth or the application will be considered abandoned.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...emarks-denied/
I am not a big fan of any of those proposed names, but Yeti was particularly bad IMO. It does seem dumb though that the reason it was denied was because of potential confusion with Yeti brand coolers.

Lol! Great! Because 'Fan Votes' always go so well.
They're going to wind up being called the 'Magic Underwear' or the 'Golden Plates' or something.

I like Mammoth the most. But if you're building a natural rivalry with LV, Outlaws is likely the way to go. Knights vs Outlaws.

My guess is that they're going with Outlaws. I wasn't really excited about any of their names but I was okay with Outlaws and Yeti.

Just keep it as the Utah Hockey Club, nothing wrong with it. Actually it sounds original.
They can have a big foot or cobra or whatever on the logo and those trademark infringement won't be a problem.

Outlaws is a pretty common sports team name i.e. arena football lacrosse and minor league teams.
